J. (Jefferson) McRee Elrod was a librarian, cataloguer, and Methodist and Unitarian minister. Elrod married Norma Lee Cummins in 1953. The couple lived in Seoul from 1955-1960, where he established Korea’s first library school at Yonsei University, assisted by the Peabody Library School. His wife Norma taught at the Foreign School, and they both taught at Yonsei University. The Elrods studied Korean at Yale University before going to Korea. The family moved to Vancouver in 1967, where Elrod served as head of the cataloguing department at the University of British Columbia from 1967 to 1979.
