Honourable Alfred J. Scow was born April 10, 1927 in Alert Bay. He was the eldest son of William D. Scow, hereditary chief of the Kwikwasut'inuxw Nation, and Alice (nee Whonnock). Alfred Scow was the first indigenous person to graduate from law school and be called to the bar in B.C., and the first indigenous judge appointed to the Provincial Court of B.C. He retired from the provincial court bench in 1992. Scow was awarded the Order of Canada in 2000 and the Order of BC in 2004. A gathering was held at MOA to celebrate his retirment and achievements.
