Ruth B. Phillips is an art historian and curator who specializes in North American Indigenous art. She received her doctorate in African art history in 1979 from the University of London, then became a professor at Carleton University. From 1997 to 2002, Phillips was the (third) Director of the Museum of Anthropology at UBC. Phillips then went on to hold the Canada Research Chair in Modern Culture, at Carleton University.
