Davis was born into the Raven Clan, and through his maternal grandmother was a descendant of the Skedans people. Davis carved masks, poles, rattles, drums, argillite and gold and silver jewellery. He was well-known for miniatures, and was one of the few Northwest Coast artists to work in mastodon ivory.
