Art Sterritt is a member of the Laxsgiik (Eagle) clan of the Gitga’at Nation of Txałgiu (Hartley Bay). Sterritt studied carving and printmaking at the Gitanmaax School of Northwest Coast Indian Art. In addition to his art and ceremonial practice, he is politically active in environmental and economic advocacy work with First Nations groups in the north and central coast.
