George was raised in Burnaby, then graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science. He became President of Nortel Technology International, retiring in 2000. After moving to Victoria in 2003, George and his wife Christiane became interested in contemporary Coast Salish art and began collecting; a large cedar carving titled "Salish Weave" by Susan Point, became their signature piece. Works of the Salish Weave Collection are now in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada, the Museum of Anthropology at UBC, Simon Fraser University, and the University of Victoria.
