Description

Vertical painting on cloth depicting 29 human figures on or near a body of water. Twenty of the figures are on the water in six boats. In the foreground (bottom of the painting), two figures on land are holding large pestles above a large mortar in front two huts. Next to these figures, on the viewer's right side, are three figures on land carrying items on their backs. In the background (top of the painting) on the viewer's right side, is a large building on land with a cross on it and three figures standing in front of it. A fourth, smaller figure is being carried on the back of the figure on the viewer's far right side. There is Ethiopian text to the viewer's right side of all six boats, as well as above the three groups of figures on land. There is additional Ethiopian text at the top of the painting. The cloth itself has uneven edges.
