Description

Horizontal painting on animal hide depicting four human figures and a zebra. Three of the four figures have yellow circles (halos) with red curvy lines behind their heads. The figure on the viewer's left side does not have a halo, but is carrying a woven basket-like item on their back using a white garment. To the viewer's right of this figure is a zebra with a second figure riding on it. The figure on the zebra is carrying a smaller third figure (likely a child) on their lap. To the viewer's right of the zebra is a fourth figure who is carrying a staff in their right hand while their left hand is outstretched. There is black Ethiopian text next to the fourth figure's left foot as well as red Ethiopian text to the viewer's right of this figure's halo. There is more red Ethiopian text between the halos of the second and fourth figures, as well as more black Ethiopian text above the red text. There is also more black Ethiopian text above the head of the first, non-haloed figure. There is a small numbered label on the lower right corner of the back of the skin.

Collected by Fred Haack while living in Africa. Acquired by the Kelowna Museum (now Okanagan Heritage Museum) in 1996.
