Women's inner cloth of mercerized commercial cotton. Warp faced cloth has multi-coloured stripes of purple, gold, burgundy, blue, green and white and ends are twisted into a two-ply knotted fringe.

From card: "# 72701 (Sash, Stikine Indians) - Illus. in USNM AR 1888; Pl. 18, fig. 72; p. 272." USNM AR for 1888 photo plate caption identifies as "Sash. Of cedar-bark rope worn over the shoulder. Ornamented with gull's down. Stikine Indians, Alaska. Collected by James G. Swan." From 19th or early 20th century exhibit label with card: "Girdle - Rope of twisted cedar bark, dyed red, ends frayed out and lashed together to form a strap, which is worn over shoulder and under opposite arm in dancing ceremonies. Sitka Indians [?? is Sitka a transcription error for Stikine?, Stikine would be more correct for Fort Wrangell], Fort Wrangel. Length of rope, 4 ft. 9 ins. Diam. 1 1/2 ins. Ft. Wrangel, Alaska, 1876. Collected by J. G. Swan." Anthropology catalogue ledger book lists a former number of 20910 for both 72701 and 72702 and says "Reentered to avoid confusion of nos." They are both listed as Sitka Inds. [?? is Sitka a transcription error for Stikine?, Stikine would be more correct for Fort Wrangell], Fort Wrangel, Alaska, collected June 9, 1876. If this former number is correct, these objects would be part of accession 4730, and would have been more likely collected in 1875 and accessioned in 1876. See also remarks for E20910.

Heavy brocade formal obi for woman's kimono. Repeating embroidery pattern, in gold, green orange, blue, black, purple, red and yellow, depicts an outdoor scene in which a boat floats near a foliage-covered river bank.

Obi for a woman's kimono (used with part p). Wide strip of pale blue striped fabric, folded in half lengthwise and stitched with added long white ties at each end. Obi has an embroidered design near one end of a silver and white flower on a red background within a dark blue circle.

Obi for a woman's kimono (goes with part n). Shimmering light pink length of stiffened fabric with a long white tie stitched onto each end.

Sash for tying a woman's kimono. Length of slightly sheer peach-coloured fabric, folded and stitched along the edge and at ends

Sash that is part of a wedding outfit (with 2589/1 a,b,c,d,e-f,h,i-j). It has tassels on one end and horizontal bands of colour starting from a central bright red to deep red, yellow, blue-black, pink, green, deep blue, blue, and blue-black running along its length.

Sashes woven with geometric and bird designs separated by repeated bars in white on a black ground. Each is tapered at one end with a fringe at the opposite end.

Sash (a) and sash segment (b), both with geometric designs in purple wool on an off-white ground with pink bands that run parallel to the edges. Part a also includes animal and bird figures in purple and has a fringe finished with a purple tassel at each end. Part b has a fringe finished with a purple tassel at one end as well as one decorative blue scalloped edge.

Sash with multi-coloured silk (?) bands interspersed with geometric patterns as well as stylized animals and leaves. There is a band of red wool at the centre with three thin bands of pattern and solid colour towards each end of the red band. The ends are each finished with a multicoloured silk (?) fringe.
