Tumbuan body mask/costume. A tall conical fibre, woven mask with two faces. At the top is a bird-like face crowned with cuscus fur and cassowary feathers; it has a long, protruding beak with a large feathered tassel at the end. At the centre of the body is a black human head made of clay with inlaid shell eyes and decoration; the top has human hair and feathers. Above are open eyeholes for the wearer, on the sides are armholes. The mask is of woven rattan over a bamboo frame, painted with red and white stripes and other detailing.
Shield composed of an oval piece of skin attached to an oval wooden frame. The frame is attached with strips of bark (?) which is wrapped around the frame, then through the skin every fourth or fifth time. At the top and bottom, woven bark (?) fills the gap between the edge of the frame and the skin. The upper portion of the back has three wooden pieces which cross and then loop onto the frame.
Large crescent-shaped shell which is pierced at both ends where it attaches to a fibre strap. The shell has a 'mother-of-pearl' appearance underneath, and yellowed on top. The top has some natural holes, two distinctively side by side. The strap is of halves; the knot at the end of one passes through the loop of the other. The fibre is brown and decorated with cowrie shells on the lower parts.
Spear (a) with sheath (b). Spear (a) has a long steel lanceolate-shaped blade, shiny with some tarnish and etched lines echoing its shape. Blade is connected to a shaft by a corroded metal fitting. The shaft appears to be a broom handle wrapped with bark. At one end the bark has uncoiled. The black sheath (b) is two pieces of wood held together by five bands of metal wrapped and beaten together. Nose and eye shapes are incised into the wood to achieve a bird-like face. The narrow end is carved with a geometric design.
A horizontal wood element of wood stained dark brown and carved to two pointed ends with a repetitive pattern underneath. Bird-like heads dominate both ends. Legs are of bamboo cut and wrapped around the horizontal, then bound with fibre to form two a-shapes.
Miniature village scene representing three figures. Two females are wearing skirts, one of which has a child on her back, and both of which are holding long wooden pestles, and have wooden mortars in front of them. These two women stand on one platform. A third figure is reclining on a separate platform nailed to the main base with this figure holding a child. Figures are all made with copper wire then wrapped into the shape with grasses, and nailed onto plain rectangular base.
Small ball made from cane fibre, and grasses wrapped together with a harder fibre. Tied, and knotted.
Miniature bedstead (part a) of seven long flat half reeds. Nine horizontal round sticks hold the top of the reeds with bamboo strips in four places (coiled). Four sticks form sides, of which the bed rests on three, resulting in a slant, the direction of which slant is determined by which leg it is resting on. Mat (part b) rests on the bed. Mat plait is twilled with wrapped, and coiled borders.
Cylindrical torch with a bees wax, and grain compound wrapped with light green-white straw, and grass bound together with a single strip of bamboo in twined large ties. The end comes to a point opposite the working end.
Miniature winnowing basket. Shallow, and round. Twilled, and plaited in light yellow, and brown cane fibres with a hoop under the rim (in and out). Border is plain wrapped with light yellow-white plant fibre. Wrapped hook on one side with a cane strip, round, and stiff, with tie.
