Ikat Textile1647/2

Rectangular woven ikat fabric; predominantly shiny, rich purple and crimson hues. All-over geometric patterning with diamond-shaped motifs in red, orange-yellow, and blue and a dark purple ground. Bands of red along the lengthwise edges. Four thick stripes alternating with three thin bands of patterning at either end.

Strap1376/3

Very long, narrow, black and grey textile, decorated with many horizontal rows of resist-dyed or painted red disks that are overprinted or stamped with black cross-shaped motifs, like petals of a flower. Sections woven with wool or goat hair yarns alternate with sections woven with cotton yarns. Long black fringes at each end are made by tightly twisting the warp yarns.

Dark blue summer kimono made of fabric with a resist dyed white checkered pattern. Kimono assembled with hand-stitching throughout. The pattern consists of alternating vertical and horizontal, white-gray lines in small squares. There is a wide patterned band around the neck and partway down the centre opening. The short sleeves have an opening under the arms. The inside is unlined.

Black summer kimono (着物) made of hand woven kasuri (絣) or ikat textile made from ramie fibre. Cotton fabric interfacing on the shoulder area woven in plain weave. Kimono assembled with hand-stitching throughout. The pattern is linear squares and circles arranged in a checkered design. There is a wide patterned band around the neck and partway down the centre opening. The sleeve panels are short with an opening under the arm. The inside is unlined.

Ikat-dyed design on fine hand woven blue cotton. Weft ikat dyes create objects of red and green, softly outlined on white on a black ground in three broad bands: (a) two bands of architectural structures, (b) central band of human and tree figures. Other bands of blue and white; checkered green, black and white outlined in red; checkered yellow and purple; single band of blue with white geometric designs, run between three broad bands above. A vertical leafy runner motif woven in white threads dominates upper field. Lengthwise border stripes are yellow and white on blue. Un-numbered end has broad redish-purple band outlined in white, dark blue and yellow. Numbered corner has paper label: 'NO.
