Collapsible fan with a band of black silk with a painted border of gold and white, a band of gold wood rectangles, and a band of green silk with a silver and gold border. The fan is supported by black bamboo ribs, each with a cut out triangle, and outer ivory ribs. Yelow cord with a green bead at the end is threaded through the ends of the ribs.

Japanese calligraphy written on both sides of a thin envelope (part a: 21 x 8 cm) and medicine labels enclosed. Medical prescription (of Folk Medicine) - Japanese - Trade mark of Japanese Folk Medicine. Part b (12.3 x 6.7 cm) has red calligraphy printed on one side. Part c (12.3 x 6.7 cm) has black calligraphy outlined with boxes on one side. Part d (12.4 x 4.2 cm) has black calligraphy written on one side with part of a circular red stamp along one edge and a red sticker stamped with purple at one end. Part e (8 x 7 cm) has black calligraphy written on one side with a red sticker and a red stamp. Part f (20.4 x 6.5 cm, folded) has calligraphy pencilled on one side with black calligraphy on an attached strip of paper.

Hat2503/6

A black brimless hat, light brown on the inside, with an oval opening for the head. Made of fabric pasted over heavy paper, lacquered black which has then been cut and folded to form the hat which is held together by lacing with a heavy twisted cord at the back. The two cuts form diagonal lines at each side, ending in two points at the upper front. There is a fold parallel to the wearer’s shoulders across the top of the hat, from which a straight-sided flap forms the outside of the back. This is attached to the ends of the wrapped front panel at the centre back with lacing. A narrow edging of paper is pasted along the lower edge of the hat. Small tassels of twisted yellow silk cord at the back. There is lacing of grey-white paper cord.
