Vest1200/9

Small black wool vest with silver embroidery. The vest has a centre front opening with lower edges that curve upwards. There are dense swirling patterns made of silver metallic braid and thread that has been couched onto the surface of the ground fabric. Blue and green glass beads are incorporated into some of the patterns. All edges are bordered with flat silver braid. The centre opening and bottom edge have small spherical ornaments, made of wood or fibre and been wrapped with silver thread. The inner lining is black silky fabric.

Bull's Hood1330/10

Highly decorated hood for a bull, formed by joining two embroidered square panels along two of their adjacent edges and rounding off the point that is thus formed. The remaining two edges of the squares are left open, forming points at the bottom of the cover. Two ovoid openings, finished with binding, are located along the top edge. The two sides of the cover are heavily embroidered with square, circular and floral motifs, in red, orange, purple, green, and white, which are embellished with many round and tear-shaped mirrors on blue background. The embroidery is underlined with red-orange heavy cotton textile.

Dowry Bag1098/2

Small, square, flat, envelope-style dowry bag or purse made by bringing three corners of a square together, using the fourth corner as a triangular flap. Heavily embroidered with square and X-shaped, brightly coloured geometric designs and round mirrors. Loosely twisted fibre cords (red, yellow and green; 52.5 cm in length) with a yellow pompom, are used to fasten the flap shut. The embroidery is underlined with red printed cotton textile.

Necklace456/6 e

Necklace composed of eight strands of cylindrical red-orange beads cut from semi-precious stone, strung on cotton or flax thread; strands are graduated lengths (36.5 to 45.5 cm), tied together at each end. The two longest strands have a silvery metallic bead in the centre. Loop made of wool yard at each end. No provision for fastening.

Boots565/4 a-b

Pair of boots made of brown and white caribou fur. The sole is made of dehaired seal skin and the boots are boat-like with vertical crimps. Between the sole and the upper section of the boots a narrow strip of red-brown depilated skin is sewn. The leg section consists of brown and white coloured vertical strips of caribou fur. In the front of the boots four horizontal pieces of decorative trim consisting of brown and white fur and red cloth, are inserted. Above this section of the boots there is a horizontal broad decorated band of brown and white caribou fur, red cloth and embroidery in blue thread. The top of each boot has a casing of brown caribou fur with a leather cord strung through it. To both sides of the foot a dehaired strip of skin is attached.

Pair of men’s outer boots (part c-d) made of caribou skin with the fur on the outside. The leg portion of the boots is made with the white belly fur of the caribou. The shoe portion of the boots are made with brown fur. The boots reach just below the knee and have a casing at the top through which a plaited cord is strung and can be tied at the back.

Outer ParkaA2.565 a

Men’s outer coat, or parka, of brown caribou fur (part a). The coat is waist length, has rounded shoulders, a long rectangular back tail and a close fitting pointed hood. The hem and the hood are trimmed with a white band of caribou fur. On top of the hood two caribou ears are attached. A broad band of white and light brown caribou fur is inserted into the upper part of the sleeves. Paired long fringes are inserted into the seams off the shoulders and in the seams on the lower back of the coat. A pair of white fur tassels is attached in the middle of the back. There is a large semi-circular hole under both sleeves.

Three dimensional brass coloured figure sitting on the back of a four-legged animal. Animal figure is decorated with series of dots on legs, and human has series of dots near neck. There are two small rings attached to the top of the piece on either side of the figure and one ring attached to the bottom of the piece, directly under the sitting figure.

MittensA2.518 a-b

Pair of mittens (part a-b) made of caribou skin with the fur on. One mitten is slightly larger (part a) than the other (part b). The mittens are each made of three pieces of fur from the leg skins of the caribou. One piece forms the back of the mitten, a second piece forms the upper palm and inside of the thumb while the third piece forms the lower palm and other half of the thumb. Another piece of white caribou fur is added to form the cuffs. The wrist cuffs are short and attached with the hair to the inside and folded over so the hair also shows on the outside. The mittens are kept together with a black cord through the cuffs.
