S'abadeb-Seattle Art Museum This basketry cradle was collected by anthropologist Erna Gunther along the Fraser River prior to 1950. Ornate decoration is common with cradles, where basket makers abandon their adherence to symmetry in favor of whimsy. In some communities the use of red decoration indicates a gift made for a beloved daughter or granddaughter, while black is more commonly used for males.
