Leather cut-out shadow puppet representing Surgriva, the Monkey King. The figure is a monkey with red skin dressed in military costume with a twisted black and white turban, thick red, black, and natural brown coloured necklaces, and chest ornaments from which a large red heart shape is suspended. Has sharp fangs, a striped moustache, and beard. Four moveable limbs. Feet are not matching. One foot (part b) is detached, has five toes, and an anklet around its red skin. Colours also include green.
A shadow puppet of leather cut out, representing a female figure; dyed black and two shades of red. Costume (part a) is elaborately patterned with black vertical stripes alternating with bands of tiny black incised flowers. Both arms (part a) are jointed at shoulders, elbows, and wrists. Removable head (part b) with a profile face, a nose pin, and numerous flower decorations with an elaborate headdress, does not appear to be matched with the body, which is older, and of a more intricate style. Jointed feet also appear to be replacements.
Small drawstring bag of black hand-woven cotton in plain weave. Geometric motif is embroidered in contrasting colours of white, purple, and yellow which closely follow the warp and weft of the fabric. Lined with black mill cloth. Machine seamed. Hand sewn to finish. Drawstring of three-strand, twisted cotton in red and white with orange cotton tassels.
Natural coloured basketry. Flat at one end and turned up and rounded at back to about 7 cm high; shallow scoop-like shape. Raw edges of weaving are caught between double strips of 2 cm. wide cane and lashed together.
Small double woven cane basketry carrying case. Inside has wide woven cane strips. The opening is folded over and is crimped at the sides in a rectangular shape. The outer woven style is of natural cane giving horizontal herringbone effect. There are two cane handles that are attached to each side of the opening. There is also a long loop type fastener attached to one side and a small woven loop on the other side of the opening.
Part a: double-woven cane basketry. Interior is twill woven of natural-coloured cane fillets. Outer layer is patterned with natural-coloured and magenta-dyed cane fillets. Design is vertical twill-woven zigzag. Natural-coloured twill woven cane strip is banded over top and fastened at intervals by a running stitch of cane. Cane strip handles, one on each end, are covered with cane fillets and lashed down with cane. Fasteners for each are composed of four loops, two pairs, one set of which slips through the other. Part b: Piece of cane, pointed at one end slips through the loops to close the valise. Valise's two bottom corners have been damaged in shipping.
Cigarette box made in two pieces, a container (part a) and lid (part b). Material of inner coil is untwisted grass bound with shining grass fillet. The container is patterned with four sets of two triangular shapes on the outside.
Basket (part a) of coiled variety, made in three pieces - base, body, and lid (part b). Base has been constructed first, and body which rounds out the sides and narrows at top is coiled above it. Material of inner coil is untwisted natural grass, added to at the free end. As coiling progresses, it is bound with a shining grass fillet to coil beneath with a stitch or wrap at very narrow intervals at centre, increasing to 1.5 cm. intervals. A triangular pattern made by over-weaving the shiny fillets on the finished basketry occurs on the base, sides, and lid.
Basket with natural twill weave inside and outer basket (part a)made of purple, blue, yellow, and green fillets of cane woven in diagonal and vertical patterns. A twill weave is used and by a simple elaboration of the diagonal combination of the coloured warp and woof gives rise to a geometric design. These two baskets are placed together and are caught between strips of split bamboo. These pieces are lashed to the basket with fine fillets of purple cane. A second basket has been made in the same manner and fits as a lid (part b).
This shallow basket is woven of grass in natural and dyed shades of red and blue. Design is over-woven with coloured fillets of grass in natural, red, and blue. Bottom is star shape radiating outward in four sectors of colour, two red, and two natural. Around this is row of natural colour grass, followed by inverted triangles filling in background. Sides decorated in diagonal bands of red alternating with rows of blue diamond shapes and red triangles separated with natural grass bands. Above this, one row of natural-coloured grasses and a final one of alternating red and natural grasses finish basket.
