Basket3207/5 a-b

Round basket with lid. Small basket has a recessed base from which rises the short, straight wall. Weave is fine, with two lines of imbricated design around midpoint, rectangles each with an interior panel, in colours of purple, blue and light green- likely faded. The lid fits over the mouth of the basket and is concave at centre with a convex finial. Designs similar to those on the basket encircle the finial.

Doll3207/3

Female doll wearing beaded hide dress. Doll is made of hide with a small hairless head, short arms, and long legs. Dress covers her from chin to ankles, sleeves enveloping arms. Beaded decoration sits at neck, wrists, waist and knees, and fringe decorates bottom hem and arms. Ties hang from neck and knee area. Ankles are heavily covered in blue and white beads; facial features created with the same beads.

Burden basket. Rectangular with three separated rows of animal designs covering all four sides. The figures are reddish-brown bark, with a lighter (yellowish) grass as background. The upper outside edge is reinforced with a rectangular loop of thick metal (telegraph) wire, held on with hide and fibre loops. The inside base is reinforced with a rectangular loop of root, bent at three corners.

Basket2898/2 a-b

Small round basket with a tight weave. The body (part a) has straight sides decorated with four identical images of small brown mice, tails curled to the front. Two thin lines of green encircle the bottom, with short lines of red and yellow between. The bottom is flat, with a thicker weave and a dark square in the centre created with a criss-cross style. The lid (part b) is round and slightly indented at centre, with a low profile and straight sides that are decorated with thin encircling rings in green with red and yellow. The top is embellished with a flower shape at the centre, and four small mice circling.

Small round basket with a tight weave. The body (part a) has straight sides decorated with images of beavers and ducks. The bottom is flat and undecorated, with a slightly thicker weave radiating out from the middle. The lid (part b) is round and slightly pointed at centre, with a low profile and straight sides decorated with thin, encircling rings in red and brown. The top is embellished with a flower shape at the centre point and three swimming ducks below.

Blanket2898/3

Large blanket woven in a “storm pattern” design. Both the warp and weft are wool. The design is symmetrical top to bottom and side to side. A large ‘x’ shape fills the centre, with geometrical shapes at top, bottom and sides in white, black and brown. Red, black and white squares sit at each corner. An undulating pattern of small red and grey squares edges the blanket on all sides, with a band of grey and brown at the outside.

Olla Basket2879/1

Round, tall, woven basket. From a wide mouth, the basket curves in at the neck, flares out again at the shoulder, then tapers slightly down to a rounded base. The bottom has an 8 point star-shaped design, and the body is circled with two prominent, dark, zigzagging lines surrounding standing human figures and four legged animals with long upright ears. Triangles and more four legged animals decorate the neck of the basket.

Large open-mouthed pot. Entire outer surface is painted in black, cream and orange-brown. Painting is divided roughly in four sections. Most imagery is abstract design, but with roadrunner-like birds in the centre panels on two sides; the lower area is solid orange-brown. Pot is round with a small flat base and a round mouth with a short lip. Inside is red-brown.

Plaque2879/2

Finely woven, round plaque with “Man in the Maze” pattern. On a light yellow-brown background, a small human figure stands above the dark brown woven lines of a maze, representing the twists and turns of life as one makes his way toward the Sun God in the centre circle. The weave of the plaque is tight and even, and the image is present on both front and back.
