Rod Puppet3420/96

Bird puppet with a black head carved with designs, some painted yellow or dark green, and a large red beak. A dark blue and yellow ridge extends down the length of the head and bill. The lower jaw moves, and is controlled by a length of plastic cord that is tied to a lever within the head. The jaw has small rectangular sections of rubber attached on either side of the mouth. Three small yellow birds with green, light blue and black spots are carved at the back of the head. The centre bird is largest, with two smaller birds on either side of the head. The puppet has a short burgundy fabric neck.

Puppet Frame Cover3420/84

Large textile composed of five different textiles, sewn together. At centre, a large black rectangle, that forms lays flat on the frame. From this, a different textile is attached on each side, and hangs down to cover the sides. The textile at the front has vertical stripes in black and white, with teal, orange, blue and green. Both sides are made of horizontal strips of fabric, loosely stitched together to form a textile. The left panel is covered with small tassels. The back is covered by a textile with repeating diamonds made out of small squares.

Rod Puppet3420/83

Large bush buffalo (sigi) puppet head, with figures above, attached to three ladder-like superstructures. The animal head is carved with thin repeating lines, which are painted white and with rows of coloured dots overtop in red, yellow, black, green and blue. The nose is black, with open nostrils. The large ears with repeating green diamonds are folded forward, sitting just below the large eyes with metal eyelids and circular nail head decorations. The mouth is hinged and opens, and is held in place with rubber inside the head. There is black pattern with orange and yellow fabric cover extending from the neck, and two long lengths of horizontally striped, woven textile extending from the chin. On top of the central superstructure is a black bird with red beak and crest, moveable wings with fabric over joints, and is painted with rows of repeating dots in yellow, white and blue. On each side superstructure, are small yellow human-like figures in tunics with moveable arms that move up and down and hold white fish. At the top of each, facing forwards, mounts two large yellow female human-like figures in tunics with breasts exposed, with moveable arms that are each holding a round shield or sign in green, yellow, white and red with an arrow design at centre. Each has a length of plastic cord threaded down through superstructure.

Rod Puppet3420/94 a-d

Large white winged horse puppet, with a bright pink human head on a long neck with three neckrings, and a length of knotted fabric. The head has a headdress or helmet, has long black hair that hangs to one side, with the hair cut short on the other side. The body has a painted green saddle, with a zigzag line border in multiple colours. There is red fabric lining the chest and abdomen. The legs are attached to the body with metal plates. A pair of large, flat, detachable painted wings (parts b-c) fit into slots on the back. Each wing is red with designs in grey, green, off-white, and yellow. A carved wooden horn-like piece (part d) is detached (possibly used as a tail?).

Vessel3420/9

Ceramic vessel with a dark red burnished surface in the upper section. The body is divided into two sections, with the bottom half heavily marked with repeating incised lines beneath an incised repeating arch border. There are two handles on opposite sides of the body. The mouth is circular, with short flared neck, and rounded base.

Rod Puppet3420/79 a-d

Large antelope puppet head, with very tall horns. Head of animal puppet (part a) with two small antelope headdress carvings (parts b-c) that attach to the tops of the horns, and a separate manipulation stick (part d). The head is painted bright orange, with green markings, and a large white diamond design centre of the forehead. The two stylized wooden antelope headdress have elongated head and horns, all covered with incised line patterns, and dwarfed legs. The manipulation stick is roughly shaped with a hole horizontally through the rectangular end.

Butterfly Mask3420/34

Butterfly mask with long wings extending out to either side. The red face with four white semicircles has two large concentric circle eyes, and a small tubular mouth. There is a black and red downward-curving projection attached to the forehead. The wings have mirrored designs, with two panels containing opposite-facing semicircles of triangles. The wing tips are white with eight-point stars within a black circle. The back has a black and white checkerboard pattern on the wings. Attached to face is plant fibre hair dyed dark brown, orange and dark teal.

Bird Mask3420/16

Bird mask carved of wood and painted. The mask has a two sunken rectangular spaces, with zigzag side edges, cutout domed eyes, and pointed ears. The mask is painted with an orange-brown and a red-brown. On top stands a bird figure, with its head down, and beak attached to the top of the mask. The bird's back and wings exposed. There is twisted plant fibre cord woven into a partial net attached at the back of the mask.

Writing Tablet3420/40

Writing tablet, or prayer board. The board is rectangular, with one large rectangular projection at the top, and two feet at the base. There is a hole in the wood (knot) just below centre. Both sides of the board are covered in writing.
