Model Totem PoleNb3.1448

A model totem pole model depicting a bear(?), frog, and bird (from bottom to top). The bear's black eyes are outlined with yellow and it has yellow upper teeth with a black tongue; its brown body is painted red, yellow, and black. The frog's yellow eyes are outlined with yellow with dark red-brown brows, and its body is painted dark green with red and yellow dots. The bird's red eyes are surrounded by a yellow and a dark green area with black above and a yellow beak. The outstretched wings each have five feather sections painted dark green, red, and black. Writing on the back says: "J. Johnson Alert Bay BC Skidigate".

Cantonese Opera BeltN1.638 b

Black belt with embroidery, hanging flaps and brass hook and bar fasteners. There are two flaps over hanging from the top edge and two hanging from the bottom edge. The front is embroidered in large stitches with white plum blossoms with pale yellow centres. The back is lined with white cotton.

Handmade Papers of the World664/6 a-lll

Cream-coloured box-like folder (part a) made of card stock with gold embossing on the spine: "HANDMADE PAPERS OF THE WORLD 9: Spain--23: Australia TAKEO CO., LTD." Folder is filled with large samples of handmade paper from around the world (parts c-lll); information concerning the originating country, name of paper, materials used, name of paper manufacturer, size in millimeters, and number within the overall paper collection is printed in black ink at the bottom of each sample. Finer, more fragile samples are enclosed in stiff paper folders with circular windows cut into the front and back; information printed along the bottom of the paper sample is repeated along the bottom front edge of the folders. Part b is an index listing all the paper samples in order according to their numeric designation.

Cantonese Opera JacketN1.643

Red jacket with appliqué circles on the centre front and back. The jacket has a rounded neck, wide sleeves and a centre opening with brass frog closures. There are slits in the sides and back. The circles have four toed dragon motifs in silver, yellow, pink and black on a turquoise ground. There are mirrors, tin reflectors, green glass eyes and white fur within the circles. There is black and gold trim around the edges of the sleeves and bottom hem. The inside lining is yellow linen.

A three-part steel lock. The first piece (part a) is the modern steel lock, #F37, master lock co. The second piece (part b) is the locking bar for the lock. The third piece (part c) is the key on a key ring that has a brown quadrangular-shaped label with two green-painted characters on one side while there are two black-painted characters on the other side.

Black jacket with embroidery, slender cuffed sleeves and side opening with metal snap fasteners. The collar, side opening, sleeves and hem have an embroidered prunus motif. The prunus are white and pale green on a black ground. The collar is finished with a white ribbon. The inside lining is white cotton.

Red robe with wide sleeves, long sleeve extensions, side slits and side opening with ties. On the front and back is a square badge with crane and prunus motifs in gold couched threads. Forefathers of Paper664/4 a-f

Six paper folders containing samples of various types of paper (parts b-f) enclosed within a larger box-like container (part a). Box-like container (a) is made of a heavy, thick cardboard covered on the outside with cream-coloured, textured paper and on the inside by cream-coloured paper with a metallic silver swirling pattern; the box has four tab-like flaps at the sides that fold over each other to create an enclosure. Parts b-f are paper folders with four overlapping tabs made from off-white cardstock; the name of the type of paper enclosed within each folder is printed in black ink on the cover of each folder, along with the inscription: "Handmade Papers of the World/Forefathers of Paper/The 80th Anniversary of the Foundation/Takeo Co., Ltd./MCMLXXIX." Each paper sample is enclosed in a plastic sleeve. In order from part b through part f, the paper samples are: papyrus from Egypt, parchment from England, bai-lan from Thailand, amatl paper from Mexico, and tapa from Fiji.

Red robe with long sleeves, side slits and side opening with a tie. On the lower front is a butterfly motif in orange, red, green, and black on a red ground. The collar and waist border has chrysanthemum and prunus motifs in blue and turquoise on a pink ground. The waist border has a fine blue and white fringe along the lower edge. The sleeve and bottom hem border has a diamond pattern in blue and white. There are tin reflectors on the back and front. The waistband is stiffened with paper and adhesive. The inside lining is natural-coloured cotton.
