Mask3289/56 a-b

Pink face mask (part a) with large black beard, thick eyesbrows and a moustache. Inserted into the mouth is a bejeweled pipe (part b). The mask is composed of animal hide, which has been painted pink. The lower portion has been cut, then stitched together to give the mask its shape. Holes are cut for the eyes, nostrils and mouth. A single small black dot is placed below the mask's left eye. A length of thin black string is looped through the top centre of the mask.

Blouse made of a rectangular panel of fabric, folded in half, and with an opening for the head. The sides are stitched together with red thread leaving armholes. The front is heavily decorated with embroidered geometric and floral designs as well as blocks of various colours around the neck, armholes and across the abdomen. The neckline is also outlined with embroidered concentric zigzags. The bottom edge is hemmed with bright green stitching. There are braided ties at the keyhole neckline.

The sides are stitched together with white and light blue thread, leaving an armhole. Decorated with embroidered black and dark green designs using Lurex around the neckline and shoulders. The bottom edge has a horizontal band of black stitching.

Woven plant fibre bag. Bag is rectangular in shape, fanning out on the open end. The open edge is decorated with a double-layer woven band of pink, purple, red and blue zigzags, which is wider than the bag, leaving loops on either side. Four strings of twisted coloured fibres hang from the one end.

The sides are tied together with large multicoloured tassels, tied near the bottom, and again near the top leaving an armhole. Heavily decorated with embroidered floral designs. The neckline is embroidered with a lilac purple scalloped pattern, with a light reddish-brown twisted line within. The bottom edge has a short fringe.
