Circular, metal sword guard with circular shape, triangular hole at centre, and ovoid holes to either side. Edge is ribbed. Low relief motifs both front and back include waves and carp at bottom, writhing dragons on either side, and a pearl above which moves freely within a flaming halo. The carp, dragons and pearl are overlaid with gold and all connected by openwork vines which are undercut. Ana, copper insert at base; seppa dai, undecipherable characters. Incised; both kogai and kodzuka openings.
Circular with raised rim. Background is hammered and there is a lustrous patina overall. Nakago ana has chiseling and copper inserts; kodzuka, rimmed with softer metal, and kogai both open. Front has chain with some loose links that appears through hole at bottom centre, continues up right side as fixed links in high relief and terminates at top in lustrous copper anchor. Back has chain of fixed links runs from hole at bottom centre up left side and over top, across kodzuka, terminating in its lower edge.
Oval-shaped metal sword guard with a triangular hole at the centre and a semi-circular hole to the side. One face has a low relief design of two swallows, a tree and two rice bales, and the reverse depicts a tree trunk and roots. Engraved with Japanese characters. Oval; sentoku, evenly hammered background; nakago ana adjusted with chiselling; open kodzuka adjusted with shakudo insert, no kogai. Signed to left of nakago ana. Front: on right, two slightly raised rice bales with a copper swallow superimposed, a bare branch curving above; another swallow descends from upper left. Back: on lower left a tree root with scattered blossoms at base.
Fan made of woven palm sheath in diagonal checker weave, each strip about 1.5 cm. wide. Fan woven in one piece with cylindrical handle which is covered with thin palm leaf(?), also woven. Body of fan shaped like inverted triangle. Band of weaving 11 cm. wide at top in which strips are 1/2 width, partially woven in open pattern, with zigzag edge at top.
Three identical cylindrical silver bells formed of two halves joined with a circular ridge, each with a slit that has circular openings at each end in the bottom half. Each bell is covered with repousse floral designs, and each is attached with a small loop to a ring of silver metal. The bells are strung on a piece of white twill tape.
Box, circular in shape, of sheet brass with a shiny finish. The box has a hemispherical boss at the centre top surrounded by a ring with irregular small raised dots. Brass rings are mounted at either side of the box. The interior is divided into two semi-circular containers, each attached by a rivet so that they can swivel open in opposite directions.
Pair of brass candle holders, each composed of 6 parts. Parts a, g are bases, each having a round flat plate on single ring foot, incised with the design of 2 bats; on the centre is mounted a round post. Parts b, h are round plates with flat bases, straight sides and flat rim with round centre hole fitting over a and g respectively. Parts c, i each consist of a ring which fits over post of a or g below plate, one side of which is extended downwards. To this are attached 2 transverse round bars to the opposite ends of which is attached a hollow rectangular bar. Parts d, j hang over the lower transverse bars of c and i and each consists of a piece of heavy wire, bent into soldered elongated s-shapes. Attached to lower end of s is a 1/2 crescent pointing downwards, made of brass rod with finial on which is mounted a freely moving brass moth with fully modeled body. Parts f, l fit on ends of a and g and each consists of a brass tube at upper end of which is mounted a cup with outturned cup and 5 petal shaped pieces bent so that points nearly touch mouth. The post of part a has been broken from base and soldered back in place.
Round, bronze bowl with dark dull patina merging to black on underside; surface rough in some places. Flat base, on 3 feet like clam shells; straight sides, rounded and flaring out near mouth with rim turned outward. Horizontal loop handles in wave-like design set below rim. Turning marks are visible on inner surface; mended break below one handle near base. On outer surface below rim is a band of leiwan pattern, enclosed by heavy bands, below which are 8 floral-appearing tao-t'ieh motifs. Mark in 3 Chinese seal characters 'Made by Song Eun'.
Pale green-gray sanwa kōrai-yaki (三和高麗焼) porcelain bodied jar on single ring foot. Squat compressed spherical shape, lentoid in transverse cross-section, contracting to mouth, with rim turned slightly outward. Orange biscuit exposed around foot. Thick crackled and transparent grey-green glaze. Inlaid on upper surface are three sets of two cranes facing opposite directions, in black and white enclosed by white circle. Between circles are three small white irregular designs.
White bodied porcelain plate on low single ring foot; plate is round and concave. On underside are painted in underglaze blue, 1 of the 8 Chinese treasures (stone chimes), painted 3 times, alternating with 1 of 8 Buddhist emblems (conch shell). On upper surface is central floral design surrounded by ring of alternating triangles filled with flowers. Remaining surface is covered with 3 rows of medallions with flowers, phoenixes and dogs. All in light and dark blue, red-orange, blue-green, light purple and light orange. 2 character mark 'Tsuji sei'.
