Cantonese Opera RobeN1.634

Woman's palace robe (gongzhuang), ecru coloured with wide sleeves, centre front opening, short, standing collar with brass buttons and panel skirt. Butterfly, peony, chrysanthemum, lotus, narcissus and hsi motifs on the front and back in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple on an ecru background. Sleeve bands with a flower and symbol motif in red, orange, yellow, green and blue on ecru ground. There are mirrors on the sleeves. The inside lining is white linen on the upper portion and blue linen on the skirt panels.

An ornamental piece that is made of clear cut circular glass (?) pieces attached with metal. There is a short thin flat rod with a point at the bottom end. A flower shape is at the top with a central clear cut circular glass (?) piece surrounded by six more around the inner perimeter and twelve more around the outer perimeter. Another flower shape is below near the middle with a central clear cut circular glass (?) piece surrounded by six more around the inner perimeter, twelve more around the middle perimeter, and seventeen more around the outer perimeter. There is another separate clear cut circular glass (?) piece at an angle just below the top flower. Chinese opera hair ornament most likely from the 1920's.

Two ornaments that are made of red and clear cut circular glass (?) pieces attached with metal and each with a thin flat rod that has a point at the bottom end. Part a: from the top hook, there is a cluster of two red pieces, one at either side, surrounded by three clear pieces with another clear piece at the top in between, and below this cluster, there are five radiating sets made out of twenty-five clear pieces. Part b: from the top hook, there is a cluster of of two red pieces, one at either side, surrounded by three clear pieces with another clear piece at the top in between, and below this cluster, there are five radiating sets made out of twenty-four clear pieces with one red piece at the bottom centre while above this cluster, there dangles an equilateral triangle made out of six clear pieces with three sets of three clear pieces dangling from it. Chinese opera hair ornaments most likely from the 1920's.
