Basketry LidNd576

Coiled rectangular lid. Handle in centre of lid has string foundation and was wrapped with grass. Grass is partly detached from foundation. Rim of lid has cedar bark foundation with wrapped grass intertwined. Only one corner has rim decoration, remainder has broken off. Top of lid has red and black cherry bark and grass imbrication in arrowhead geometrical design.

Large rectangular basket with a lid (part b). Basket is made of slat construction with a 2 cm indented foot. Decorated with an imbricated downward pointing arrowhead design in black and red cherry bark and a light-coloured grass, three on each long side and one on each short end. Top slat coil has red cherry bark beading and a 2 cm lip. Sides of the lid (part b) have black cherry bark beading and the top has black cherry bark arrowhead imbrication.

Oval coiled slat basket (part a) with a lid (part b). Basket (part a) has two hide carrying straps. Geometric beading of double outward pointing arrows, creating a diamond shape, decorates the body of the basket using red and black cherry bark and grass. Lid (part b), which also has beaded designs, has a lip which fits tightly into the basket.

Small rectangular basket with slat base construction. Sides are coiled slats. Geometric imbrication decorates four sides using red and black cherry bark and white grass in a continuous v formation on each side, creating a zig zag all around. Rim coil is beaded with red cherry bark.

Coiled rectangular basket (a) with lid (b). Black and red cherry bark imbrication form geometric design which covers both basket and lid on all sides. Lid is attached to basket with three strips of hide on both sides. There are two handles for carrying at either end, as well as one on the front.
