Collapsible fan consisting of folded silver paper that has four columns of Japanese characters painted in black, and which is supported by three black lacquered bamboo ribs and two outer, wide lacquered ribs. The reverse side of the paper is gold.

There is a thin, light blue ribbon that runs horizontally through a middle section of the textile along with a cardboard tag that has calligraphy on it and blue tassels attached; the top has a blue calligraphy stamp on it.

Cup-shaped brass gong (part a) with a rounded bottom and two dragons and a crest design in slight relief around the top. Gong rests in a raised, five-legged wooden stand (parts b and c); stand is lacquered in red and gold. A stuffed ring-shaped cushion of brown and taupe-coloured, floral pattered fabric rests inside the top section of the stand (part c). Part d is a cylindrical hide-covered beater with a red lacquered wooden handle.
