Bird is in a sitting position, clawed feet to front, wings at sides, large head with a prominent curved beak and flat top pitched slightly forward. Eyes are blank circles. Wings have a suggestion of feathers and openwork patterning that continues onto back where wings end in vertical lines. "Neel" is carved into back at bottom. A pair with 3204/5.

Small carved model pole. Partly painted. Figures are: thunderbird at top, with an animal face painted on its body, standing on a crouching bear (lower feet not shown). Pole is nailed onto the base from below with one nail. The wings are one separate piece of wood (part b) nailed onto the pole at the back with a single nail. The back is unpainted and has a stamp with the following: "Made in Canada by Ellen Neel & the Totem Carvers - Kwakiutl Indians".
