Hat1098/1

Helmut-like hat, or cap, with a long flap in the back that covers the ears and back of the neck. It is made of a satin-weave fabric that is machine printed with multi-coloured designs of flowers, leaves and stems, and it is heavily ornamented with glass and plastic beads, metal zipper teeth, plastic buttons, cotton braid and silver-coloured ball chains. On the forehead are panels of curvilinear designs and borders of beading and metal applique. The crown consists of a circular panel of finely-worked silk embroidery on black cotton textile, topped with a beaded topknot and silver ornament. Completely lined with blue-gray cotton.

The overall base is octagonal in shape, is white-yellow in colour and at one end, has a centred circular hole through to the other side. On the other end of the of base near its centre, there is a small wooden dowel coming through from the underside that is light brown in colour. On the underside of the piece, there are two longer wooden dowels near the edges of the piece and on the opposite side, the dowels appear to be missing leaving two holes present. Near the centre of piece there is a shorter dowel coming through from the top surface.

The figure is a sculpture of a human torso from the shoulders up, is white-yellow in colour, has a well defined face with deep set eyes, a small sloped nose and has a closed mouth that is slightly frowning. Small C-shaped ears are carved on either side of the face, level to the eyes and the figure depicts chin-length hair that is represented by hatching marks on the head. The overall appearance of the figure is female. On the underside of the figure is a small brown hollow opening at the centre.

Print with three quadrangular light green shapes in the background. One is a vertical rectangle at the top left corner, below which, there is a second rectangle with a semi-circular indent at its top right corner and the third is an inverted and reversed "L" shape at the top right corner that extends to the bottom right corner. Over these, there are overlapping abstract design elements in red, blue-green, and black that include u forms, ovoids, and circles.
