Hand Puppet3352/3

Mamulengo hand puppet of a 'Cobra chibana' or crocodile character. Head is carved from wood and painted. The crocodile is dark green with a light blue with floral patterned cloth cover starting at the neck. The head is made of two pieces of wood, and hinged to allow the mouth to open. The teeth are bared, and extend down the length of both upper and lower jaws. The fabric sleeve is quite long and tube-like. There is a stick inside the sleeve, at the back of the head.

Hand Puppet3381/30

Calungo hand puppet of a 'Cachorra Pechincha' (bargain dog?) character. The light brown dog is made with wood covered in fabric. It has small ears and a slightly curled tail. Black wood eyes and painted nose, and drawn red mouth. In place of legs, a tube of mixed animal prints (stripes, spots) fabric in black, brown and white extends down, which is where the hand is inserted.

Mamulengo hand puppet of a 'Político' (politician) character. Head and hands are carved from wood and painted. He has pink-beige skin, large oval black eyes, thick rounded black eyebrows, a closed mouth with red lips, and a black moustache with stubble hair on his chin and jaw. His fabric body / tunic is deep orange with sleeves and skirt of a dark blue with red flower and yellow heart fabric. The fabric is adhered to the hands and head, and wrapped with shiny brown-gold ribbon at the wrists and neck. Operated by inserting a hand inside the body of the puppet to control its head and movements.

Mamulengo hand puppet of a 'Quitéria' character. Carved from wood and painted. She has light pink skin, wide dark blue eyes, and a slightly open mouth with large red lips. She wears a dress made of two different floral-patterned fabrics with dark pink ribbon lining the neckline, belting the waist, and along the hem of each layer of the skirt. She has long brown hair with a dark pink mesh floral ornament on the right side of her head, and her face is painted with green eye shadow, long black lashes, and dark red circles of blush. The fabric is adhered(?) to the hands. Her boots are painted black.

Mamulengo hand puppet of an 'Inspetor Peinha' (inspector) character. Carved from wood and painted. He has light pink-beige skin, wide brown eyes, pointed nose, thin "pencil" moustache, and thin red lips around a slightly open and down turned mouth. He wears a dark teal cap over short black hair that is adhered to the head. He wears a khaki brown collared shirt that is belted below his large stomach, and dark teal pants. The fabric is adhered to the hands. The hands are carved to define the fingers, and the boots are painted black. He holds a small wooden club in his right hand.

Mamulengo hand puppet of a 'Morte' (death) character. Head and hands are carved from wood and painted. He has a white skull with streaks of red, carved-out round eye sockets, and a wide grinning mouth. His fabric body / tunic is white, and he wears a long black scarf over his head. The fabric is adhered(?) to the hands and head, and wrapped with shiny black ribbon at the wrists and neck. His right hand is carved and painted to resemble a scythe. Operated by inserting a hand inside the body of the puppet to control its head and movements.

He has black skin, glass eyes with sparkles, orange wool hair and beard, red lips and eyebrows, metal teeth and prominent white eyelashes. His jaw is hinged, and is operated by a control wire under his chin. He wears a basketry hat, with the rim wrapped with light blue ribbon. His fabric body / tunic is sky blue with large pink flowers and green leaves, with a cutout floral pattern within. The fabric is adhered to the hands and head. She is wearing a long blue and white tie-dyed dress overtop of dark blue with yellow floral leggings.

Rod Puppet3352/13

Mamulengo rod (stick) puppet of a male character. Head, hands and feet are carved from wood. The man has black skin, large black almond-shaped eyes, and red glossy lips. He wears a round woven hat, long-sleeved dark blue with red floral shirt, and yellow with heart-pattern pants. He is barefoot. The fabric is adhered(?) to the hands and head, and wrapped with shiny neon green ribbon at the wrists and neck. Operated by three rods - one large rod is attached to the lower back, and two more rods are attached to each foot.
