Wooden painted mask. Dark grey elephant face with bulging eyes, a curved trunk, large ears and two tusks. Red-orange and black scalloped headdress on top of mask, with smaller curved triangles in front of scallops. Three triangular protrusions in front of central scallop with circular protrusion below them. Linear and circular designs curved into circle. All protrusions are painted gold. Curved triangles also painted gold. Scallops have linear and swirl motifs painted across them in black, silver and gold. Gold horn-like shapes on either side of the headdress. Elephant’s brows painted black with golden dots. Triangular protrusions along sides of face with gold lines throughout. Elephant trunk hangs over wide open mouth and is framed on either side by tusks. Horizontal lines painted in intervals along trunk, done in black, maroon and gold. Area around mouth painted dark red, with white teeth along top edge. Gums are pink-orange. Outer rim of mouth painted black with silver lines throughout. Eyes are painted orange and red, and rimmed in red. Ears are painted orange-pink, with black, red-orange and gold lines throughout to highlight the inner ear. Elephant is wearing triangular golden earrings, with linear and circular designs carved into them. Mask has holes for eyes, nose and mouth. Both ears are attached to mask with nails. Piece of skin(?), with hole through one end, nailed to back of mask. Ink inscription inside of mask.

Wooden painted mask. Humanoid, demon-like face with bulging eyes, a protruding nose, large ears with stretched earlobes and four tusk-like teeth. Dark green and red scalloped headdress on top of mask with a tiered cylinder in the centre. Three triangles around middle tier and a teardrop-shaped protrusion on the front of the cylinder. Teardrop flanked on either side with swirl designs. Smaller curved triangles along top of headdress, in front of scallops. Red horn-like shapes on either side of headdress. Stylized linear and geometric motifs painted across all of headdress in white, black and gold. Black triangular protrusions along sides of face with white linear motifs painted overtop. Mouth is open wide and has large white teeth along the top and bottom edges, in the centre. Mouth painted dark red. Face is painted white and has black highlights around the cheeks, mouth, chin, nostrils and ears. Eyes are painted yellow-orange and rimmed in red. Outer ear painted white, inner ear painted red and is trimmed in orange. Mask has holes for eyes, nose and mouth. Both ears attached to mask with nails. White knotted string attached to top of headdress, on back.

Wooden plaque-like mask. Flat, demon-like face, with wide eyes, wide nose and four small tusk-like teeth, in centre of plaque. Face is wearing a dark gold, scalloped headdress, forming the top edge of the plaque. Central semi-circle on headdress with carved details, painted in red and black. Bottom edge of headdress bordered with black and red bands. Linear and geometric motifs carved throughout. Black and gold horns painted on either side of headdress. Mouth is open and has white teeth along the top edge. Stylized flames(?), painted red, gold and black, extend from both sides of the mouth. Flames(?) form the left and right sides of the plaque. Mouth and tongue are painted dark red, gums are pink. Area around mouth painted black with gold stripes throughout. Face is painted white, with black highlights around the cheeks and chin. Eyes are painted orange and yellow, rimmed in red. Brows protruding over eyes painted black. Mask has hole for mouth. Entire back is painted red.

Mask3439/1

Carved and painted wood mask. The mask is long and thin, with a long nose that curves and connects with the mouth area. The eyes are inlaid cowrie shells within a painted black area. The jaw and mouth area are also inlaid with two rows of cowrie shells - small shells around the interior, and larger shells around the outer edge. The jaw is lined with dark brown plant fibre beard on a braided cord. At the top centre of the head is a hole with a short length of braided plant fibre tied looped through.

Cribbage Game Board3432/1 a-f

Carved cribbage board (part a) with four pegs (parts b-e). The board is carved with a row of animal figures and animal heads along the top. At one end is a full bear-like figure, facing outward; then three bear(?) heads, one facing the rump of the bear, the other two facing each other, muzzle to muzzle; then a full seal lying on its stomach; then a full walrus carved on its back, at the other end. All the animals have black inlaid baleen eyes, and each one has a red mouth; the walrus also has black inlaid dots representing whiskers. The board has 60 holes - each set of ten, in two columns of five, is outlined in black. The board has been broken into several pieces and reglued. The pegs are very long and taper at one end. The small rectangular wooden box (part f) is unlined, and has a small clasp at front, centre.

Wooden toy truck carved from tree branch with bark attached. Carved to a point at the front. The front seat is covered with a cloth canopy, and there is a flat bed at back with four roped together vertical pegs. The steering wheel and tires are all cross-sections of branch. The wheels are threaded on axels with a small wooden peg on either end. There are two bumpers extending from the back of the truck.

Wooden toy car (part a) with trailer (part b) carved from tree branch with bark attached. Car tapers to a point at the front, and has a front seat and back seat. The steering wheel and tires are all cross-sections of branch. The wheels of the car and trailer are threaded on axels with a small wooden peg on either end. The two-wheeled trailer has a storage compartment on top created by eight vertical pegs. The trailer attaches to the car with a hitch and peg.

Halibut Hook3419/1 a-b

Wooden halibut hook (part a) with wooden B-shaped float and detached metal barb (part b). Float attached to hook by thick cord wrapped in cedar root. A section of twisted cord extends beyond the float in a loop. The barb has lashings around its base.

Toy Puppet3408/3

Toy string puppet Brahma bull. The bull is composed of many wooden parts, which are attached at the joints by string or nails. The bull is white with black hooves, grey horns, and red ears, nostrils and collar and is decorated with copper metallic paper cut out patterns. Attached by many strings to a red wooden control bar composed of a single long piece of wood with two cross-bars.

Textile Stamp3396/2

Woodblock or textile stamp carved with an image of Ganesh. Block has uneven sides with a large wood handle attached to one face, and the stamp design on the other. The elephant deity is depicted in profile, wearing a crown, holding things in three of his four hands, and sits with his feet together. He sits on a low platform with four feet. In the upper right corner is a small mouse. The stamp area is grey-brown from the use of ink.
