Textile3332/41

Rectangular orange textile with three frayed edges and a single finished edge. A slightly smaller rectangular purple textile is layered overtop and is heavily embroidered in orange with some light green, dark purple and dark blue in the more central designs. The embroidery features a large rectangular design with two squares within, and then a multicoloured circle within each square.

Dress Panel3332/30

Small rectangular piece of cloth, thought to be part of a dress. The base fabric is red, with smaller sections of orange fabric, light green fabric and burgundy fabric layered over top. Over the green fabric are two green and red embroidered rectangles, with three rows of looped embroidery(?), then red with copper metal over top, and a calico pattern at centre. On the orange fabric below are two embroidered squares, mainly in a red design.

Small square textile. Front is purple silk(?), which is embroidered with light reddish-brown, green and grey as well as plaited gold metal fibres in three squares. Centre square has flower(?) design with small grey sequins each with a single light blue bead. Heavily beaded in light blue around edges, with four multicoloured roundels, one in each corner. Backed with a medium reddish-brown cotton.

Star-shaped textile with slit for head at centre, folded in half to create a collar. Heavily embroidered in black, red, orange, off-white designs. Edged with a band of dark brown-black cotton, and then three thin finely-plaited, with long black and red silk(?) fringe around the edge of the entire textile.

Square piece of fabric, with three corners folded in on itself, and then sewn together with heavy black thread creating an envelope-shaped case. Has additional green piece of fabric at throat of envelope. Four flower-shaped roundels. Front heavily decorated with small circular mirrors and embroidered floral-like pattern. Heavily embroidered all over with organic designs. Long pink and green tie with tassel at end.

The front and back bib is heavily decorated with red embroidery, with a band of bright orange through the centre. The orange has bands of colour throughout. The design is edged with sections of various solid colours with a scalloped edge, and then sections of coloured stitching. The armholes also each have a band of embroidery. The bottom edge is unfinished.

Wedding Dress3346/1 a-b

Two piece wedding dress, consisting of a jacket style top (part a) and skirt (part b). Open front jacket with a stiff high-necked collar, made entirely of black silk. There are small slits on the sides and one up the back. Jacket has three frog closures. On either side of the bottom closures there are decorated ties. The jacket is embroidered with gold metallic thread. On the front and back of the jacket there are blooming flowers and vines. Along the top edge of the collar, sleeve cuffs, bottom hem, edges of the slits and jacket opening there are two tiers of scallops and then wave-like designs. The interior of the jacket has a pink silk lining. Small purple tag on interior of collar with Chinese characters embroidered in gold thread. The skirt is four-paneled, full length and made entirely of red silk. Skirt is closed at the back, towards the right side, with four metal button clasps and a cotton tie that spans the waist. Hanging from the bottom hem are strands of twisted white gold metal. The front and back panels of the skirt are straight and the panels on the left and right are pleated. Like the jacket, the skirt is embroidered with gold metallic thread. The bottom hem has a two-tiered scallop border. Above the tiers on the front and back panels there are wave-like designs and then large flowers and vines. Running along the pleats on the left and right panels there are smaller flowers and vines. The panel edges are all bordered with two-tiers of scallops.

Jacket3346/2

Women’s dark blue jacket with small side slits and side opening with three pink frog closures. Top closure has an embossed metal button with a blue painted centre. Part of jacket covered by side opening has a small rectangular pocket. Pink frog closure at collar and another to the left of the neck opening. Dark blue portions of jacket have various plants and Chinese characters embroidered in a lighter blue thread. Sleeves are edged with three black bands that are bordered with thin white, light green and pink stripes. Next to the bands, pink and blue flowers are embroidered on a black strip of fabric. Bordering the black strips are light blue bands with white flowers embroidered on them. Around the neck opening the same pattern of bands span the entire collar. The bands are wider at the front, reaching towards the chest, and thinner on the back, reaching just below the neck. To the right of the side opening, on the chest, a pink spiral-like creature is embroidered. The plain black chest bands end to the right of it, while the bands with flower embroidery continue underneath it. The bottom of the jacket has a plain black band border. The band has a thin pink stripe at the bottom and white and light green stripes at the top. Above that band there is a thin black line. In the corners of the jacket, where the sides meet the bottom hem, the thin black line is woven into three linked loops. The interior of the jacket has a light blue cotton lining.
