Museum Purchase: Indian Collection Subscription Fund, Rasmussen Collection of Northwest Coast Indian Art.
Plaque with three birds attached to front. A thin, flat piece of dark stone is smoothed into an irregular shape. It holds three relief carvings of birds, attached by adhesive and posts placed in bored holes. The birds are carved with textured wings tucked onto their backs, long necks and small heads. The first sits with feet protruding to the front, the second with no feet showing, and the third stands tall.
Small scoop carved out of a single piece of stone. The scoop is wide at front, narrowing slightly toward back. Front and side walls flare outward slightly, while back wall is straight. A small, thick handle protrudes from the top back, and curves upwards. Striations from carving are visible over the entirety of the piece.
Small soapstone carving of a bear. Animal's head is slightly lowered, back curved, short tail jutting out at rear. Mouth is open, ears are folded onto top of head, and small eyes and nostrils have been bored into the face. Bear stands with all four feet adhered to a rectangular block pedestal of a green-grey stone.
Small stone carving of two birds sitting side by side on a rectangular base, wings tucked onto their backs, both facing ahead. Dots for eyes and nostrils are carved onto the heads, as are mouths around the front tip of the beak.
Small stone carving of a seated figure. A woman sits on a stool, hidden by the long rear flap of her parka, booted feet slightly outstretched in front of her. The garment's hood is pulled up, but the finely carved face is fully visible. Her shoulders are broad, and her hands are placed on her knees, the left hand is holding a wooden utensil.
