Hat3531/4 a-b

Woven palm leaf hat, fedora-style (part a), with a decorative belt (part b). Hat has a moderately wide brim and crown with a pinched front and back. There are three holes on each side, between the pinched sections, lined with metal. A green plastic ribbon wraps around the base. It has an alternating square motif, consisting of solid green squares and checkered ones with floral motifs in the centre. Separate red leather belt rests around hat base, covering the ribbon. Belt is decorated with columns of holes, lined with metal, along its length; entire belt wrapped in a dark blue wool.

Woven raffia bag with strap and loop clasp. Has dark green checkered pattern across body of bag. Two maroon stripes run down centre on the front and back. Strap has dark purple border on both sides and a dark green line in the centre of it.

Rectangular cloth with beige plain weave fabric and cut-pile(?) embroidered geometric designs. The pattern is hexagonal or honeycomb-like, with each hexagon form filled with concentric shapes, and a centre that is either deep red or golden orange colour. The hexagons are outlined and divided by a dark brownish-grey line. Long fringe is knotted around entire cloth in alternating sections of dark brown and yellow-brown fibres. Two large safety pins are attached along one short end on the backside of the cloth.

Tall bulbous decorated headdress which tapers in towards the headband. The headdress is covered with black faux fur(?), then decorated with a large crest, and strips of red, light blue, dark blue and green ribbons. White faux fur is attached to the side. A thick twisted string of red, gold and green is looped around the headdress. There are two shorts black ties.

Bright teal feathers extend from the top of the headdress and down one side. The opposite side has two tassels, and there is one tassel below the feathers. An ornate band goes over the top and is decorated by a row of fake "jewels". There are two shorts ties of red, white and green.

It is decorated with a large crest, coloured mirrors, strings of beads, plastic "jewels", a small owl decoration, sequins, and applique. Blue feathers extend from the top of the headdress and down one side. The opposite side has three tassels, and there is one tassel below the feathers. There is a black Velcro chin strap.

Burden Basket3301/17

Large basket with a rounded bottom, and a small handle of twisted fibre on either side. One half of the basket is painted with rows of black rings. The rim of the basket is formed from plaited fibres. Seven pieces of root(?) are bent into rings, and attached within the basket to hold its shape.
