Tapa Cloth1787/1

Very large two-ply tapa cloth without seams. Design covers entire front surface. The main area is divided into eight panels divided by black lines. Each panel has black and brown geometric designs in it. Background of all panels covered with brown parallel lines - some straight up and down, some diagonal. Border design near each end. One end's border is wider than the other end's. Sides and ends are rough.

Tapa Cloth1784/1

The cloth is two-ply and square with designs in black, yellow and red. There is a large black circle with a scalloped yellow outer edge. Inside the circle on a yellow background there is a heraldic image with an inscription. At the centre of the image is a cross inside a red six-pointed star. Surrounding the star are a cluster of three small stars, two spears, a laurel wreath and flowing ribbon among other symbols. Inside the large circle are random simple black designs and four half-circle designs on the inside edge of the circle.

Tapa Cloth1775/1

Large tapa cloth, completely covered in geometrical and linear patterns on one side. Burlap band attached to each end with an adhesive. Tapa is made up of several large pieces pounded together.

Body MaskIe415

Tumbuan 'mask' or body costume. Conical shape made of a wooden frame and wrapped with a large piece of mulberry bark that is painted with a vertical striped pattern in dark brown, light brown and orange. Along the bottom edge is a long fringe of sennit(?) dyed red and black; the sides have two red tufts. Attached to the front is an oval shaped wooden mask covered in white clay. The face has a long forehead, protruding brow, nose and red tongue. The septum has boar tusks running through; eyes are inlaid with shell. Around the eyes and nose is black and white spotted detailing. Above the mask are black feathers, a large tuft of sennit ? dyed black and painted red and white. The top back has a fibre woven plate, an erect woven handle and a pink and blue fabric decoration with white feathers. The top sides have wooden handles painted black, red and white.

Tapa Cloth1448/17

Long narrow decorated tapa (masi) with designs in black and brown. The design is two blocks (pairs) wide and seven long, each pair containing similar flower-like central designs with wide geometric borders around the whole set of blocks. The flowers are of two types, one with oval petals and the other with diamond-shaped petals. One side has a thin striped fringe, the other has a border of lengthwise lines. The ends are serrated. The cloth is made of two pieces attached together; one is thinner than the other.

Long rectangular tapa cloth with geometric designs in brown and black on natural coloured ground. In the centre are squares with two floral motifs in natural on a divided brown and black ground. Around the squares are many bands with triangular and diamond motifs in natural and black. The bottom edge has a thin, black and white fringe. The ends are cut in a serrated pattern.
