A fine rectangular linen sampler showing variations of the technique of weaving with needle and thread. A centre medallion, worked in cross stitch embroidery, contains the date of 1767 and several sets of initials from the top right clockwise: CL, S, CS, CS, LS with B, and EK in the middle. The medallion is framed with bands of plain weaving stitch in red-brown thread. Ten rectangular sample blocks of different weaving patterns surround the medallion. The patterns include plain weave, twill weave, diamond pattern, check pattern, herringbone pattern, chevron pattern, and stripe pattern worked in two colours. One sample is multi-coloured. The samples are reversible. Decorative stitchery in all four corners. The left edge is a selvage while the other edges are finished with a rolled hem.
Pattern for making bobbin lace, consists of a strip of parchment which is perforated with pin holes and marked with pencil in a 'fan' lace design. Tabs made of medium blue linen or cotton textile are attached at each end. The initials of the pattern-maker, written in ink, are located at one end. Wrapped as a bundle in a piece of blue tissue paper, secured with a steel straight pin. A descriptive label, hand-written in ink on a scrap of white paper, accompanies the item but is not attached to it.

Blue lace making pillow, fully set up for lace making, with work in progress. The pillow is square with rounded corners, tightly stuffed with grasses or straw, covered with blue linen textile. A parchment lace-making pattern is pinned into position on the pillow; there is a length of finished lace, the near end of which is still in process. Approximately 60 threads and bobbins are attached and approximately 125 steel pins hold the thread in position on the pattern. Twenty-one spare bobbins are held in a pocket on the right hand side. A triangular pin cushion holds extra pins.
