Fan made of woven palm sheath in diagonal checker weave, each strip about 1.5 cm. wide. Fan woven in one piece with cylindrical handle which is covered with thin palm leaf(?), also woven. Body of fan shaped like inverted triangle. Band of weaving 11 cm. wide at top in which strips are 1/2 width, partially woven in open pattern, with zigzag edge at top.

Plain weave palm fibre tear-drop shaped fan with handle wrapped in purple and pink yarn. Plaited edging sewn on with running stitch. Pink yarn in a loose crossing pattern over plaited edging. Horizontal rows of orange and black yarn across fan, design from top: three orange ovals, five black ovals, five orange squares, six black squares, five orange squares, and five black ovals. Twisted blue, purple and yellow cord from base of handle has an attached tassel of blue, green, red, and white.

Hat composed of braided strips of palm leaf sewn together with red cloth folded over the rim and stitched in place. Two strips of red cloth run over the crown in a cross shape with mutlicoloured yarn ornamenting the top, and four smaller red fabric crosses placed around the brim. A beaded band of orange, green, blue and yellow flowers on yellow with black borders is tied with blue cord around the base of the crown from which extend seven groups of white feathers. The feathers rest on the brim and are joined with lengths of orange cord, the ends, placed behind the beaded band, are knotted and extend beyond the band at the top. Along the underside of the rim are 15 beaded floral square tassels with rectangular extensions. A chin strap of blue woven band with yellow horizontal stripes has twisted and knotted ends with floral beaded square tassels attached.

HatNi32 a

A broad flat rim hat of woven palm decorated with red fabric strips stitched on the crown and three locations on the brim in a cross pattern. Red material is stitched along the edge of the brim. A woven pink, and green band is tied around the crown. Six bunches of white-grey feathers are tied to the crown with string with the number of feathers per bunch varying. Underside of brim is decorated with twenty-three beaded tassels evenly distributed. Woven chinstrap stitched to underside of brim with two beaded tassels on each end. (Also see Ni32 b)

Basket (a) is a rounded rectangle, and has a lid (b) which fits completely over base. Basket contains five wooden arrows. Arrows: (part c) five feathers attached to top, shaft wrapped in bands of yellow and green yarn, two feathers near top attached with blue yarn, all feathers hang freely; (part d) six feathers attached to top, light blue yarn wrapped around shaft; (part e) five feathers at top, orange yarn wrapped around upper shaft attaches a rattlesnake tail and a bird claw, one feather attached with red yarn, back shield of thin sticks is woven together with green, pink and blue yarn, also has a round mirror with a plastic frame; (part f) down-like feathers attached to top, green, purple and pink yarn wrapped around shaft in bands, two feathers attached with red yarn; (part g) four feathers attached to top, bands of blue, white and yellow yarn around shaft, gourd medallion with deer(?) shaped in wax has various coloured seed beads applied; (part h) brown feathers attached to top, orange yarn wrapped along upper shaft, two feathers attached with blue yarn.

A very long plain dark bow without string. The bow has a flattened oval appearance with one flat side in cross section (one side flat, one side convex.), tapering from the centre to the ends. There is a raised ridge around the bow at both ends. One end has a cassowary claw, which is now broken. The opposite has two woven sleeves, probably rattan, each 1 cm. wide. The flat side of the bow is coated with thick resinous substance, now flaking off.

Small roughly shaped wooden violin (part a) has scroll-like end, peg-box with four pegs, thin white cord looped and tied around one end of peg-box, fingerboard extending downward from peg-box, four metal strings with one end of each string looped around a peg and the other end passing through a hole in the tail piece, looping over the string and is twisting, on two strings at tail piece are metal circles with short yarn fringe. Small dark brown cleaver-like instrument attached to string on right by thin white cord. Small square piece of wood beneath end of tail piece. Looped and knotted palm fibre cord passes through holes in end of tail piece and around knob glued to bottom back. Two s-curved sound holes cut into sound board on either side of strings between fingerboard and tail piece. Sound board, sides, back and fingerboard are glued together. Bracket (part b) bow has 38 calibre gun shell cartridge at one end, cloth-strip wrapped and tied at end of cartridge, multiple strands of horsehair emerge from cloth and extend down length to pass through hole in opposite end and are knotted.

Part b: Lid is made from 1 cm. wide fillets of palm leaf dyed two shades of purple, white, green, and red.

Two strips of purple are bound over the top and wrapped around the handle.
