Lantern consisting of black lacquered woven case with a collapsible paper lantern attached inside. The lantern is composed of light brownish-yellow oiled paper with an attached bamboo strip coil support and is decorated with a geometric design of six black squares. On the interior bottom is a metal candle support with a metal spike at the centre, and there is a metal handle at the top.

A gold painted conical helmet with openwork floral and scroll designs, and "tiles" around the whole of hat with the openwork around the upper portion, and the "tiles" around the lower portion. There are three flaps, one at the back with two at either side. Circular mirror reflectors attached to designs and flaps: seven in a flower-like pattern on the back flap, three in a triangular-like pattern on each side flap, one on each of the four quadrants of the hat itself, with another at the bottom front.

Small red lacquer table covered with designs and imagery in relief. Table top has a pavilion in a landscape setting with scholars, willows, pines and rocks. Sides and legs are decorated with a key border, arabesques and floral patterning.

Last scene is of emperor and courtiers in a landscape setting. The whole vase is decorated with designs of cicadae key designs, scrolls and arabesques. All in relief on red lacquer.
