Wayang hand puppet. The puppet, Un Kauw, has a human-like male head carved from wood, featuring sharp teeth emerging from below a pointed upper lip, a third eye on the forehead, two small faces protruding from behind each ear, and a small gold headdress perched on the receding black hair. Tall black boots are also carved from wood, as are the hands which are curved into fists with a hole bored through the centre. Legs are made from stuffed cotton, and the torso and arms of the puppet take the form of a cotton glove. The puppet’s robe has an upright collar, wide torso and sleeves, and a multi-paneled skirt hanging in front of the legs both front and back. The garment’s base colour is white, with heavy embroidery showing dragons, dragon scales, a butterfly at back, and decorative boarder motifs. The underside of the robe is lined with raw cotton.
Body adornment (karawut) woven of bark and fibre. The object is coloured with ochre, charcoal and lime, and takes a basic human shape with head at top, protruding nose running down the length of the face, large open eyes, and open mouth below nose. At bottom are two thin legs with dangling cowrie shells as feet. The chest is thickly padded. Lines of cowrie shells are sewn onto the torso and upper legs, and boar tusks, two per side, are attached along the midpoint edges. At back, a short loop of fibre is attached at mid-upper shoulder.
Woven, almost square, patterned mat. Woven design is in shades of beige, light brown and black which form wide horizontal and vertical bands, diagonal bands along the edges and a dark and light H pattern in the horizontal bands. There is a thicker border woven over the mat on both sides, about 5 cm from the edges, that runs all the way around the square. The back is similar to the front except much of the black area is done in a light brown weave so the H design is in beige and light brown.
The mat is square with rounded corners and geometric patterns. The centre is a natural coloured square surrounded by a square of brown diagonal lines. Next is a square of black squares alternating with the positive and negative images of two triangles, points touching. There is another square of brown diagonal lines. Then there is a large square of brown diamond shapes with the four corners solid brown. Finally the outside edge has a border of black designs resembling 'EIE'. Elaborate geometric designs of black and red on natural ground. Rounded corners. Tight weave.
