Baby Carrier3613/1

Basketry baby carrier with woven tumpline; made up of slat foundation and sides covered with coiled cedar bark. Carrier is rounded and wider at head; tapered and narrow at foot. Exterior sides and head walls have a repeating checkered square pattern, alternating between red-brown and black; thin bands of undyed bark in between squares. Exterior wall of foot has two squares with half red-brown and half black checkers. Interior of carrier is undecorated. Thin skin straps and ties threaded through top edge, near four corners and head of carrier; tumpline is attached to skin straps at foot. Tumpline has central diamond design with triangles extending from either side; diamond and triangles are undyed. Negative space around shapes done in black, red, and olive green alternating bands.

Mountainous shoreline in the background of the painting, along with birds in the sky; palm tree, with small plants around base, in the foreground. Boat has a tall stern and low bow; three people closest to the stern are standing, rest of paddlers are seated. Back of painting lined with white paper; red fabric tie threaded through paper, for hanging purposes. Manufacturer's mark stamped in bottom right corner, and pencil inscription written along left edge; both marks on back of painting.

Miniature Bow3557/14

Bow with three arrows sealed inside a plastic bag; bag is secured shut with a paper manufacturer's label stapled over the opening. Bow is wrapped with plant fibre and its string is made of the same material; arrows are attached to string and side of bow with plant fibre ties. Arrows have bamboo shafts, long wood tips, and pigment decorations along the tips; small feathers attached around bottoms of tips. Skirt has a long waist band; one side has a looped end, other ends in a thick open braid. Along length of band are two sections of braided fringe; one section of fringe is longer than the other. Earring is hollow and cylindrical with two triangular protrusions at the front opening; tuft of animal fur stuffed in between protrusions. Triangular, straight, and curved lines burned(?) around front of earring; diamond design amongst lines underneath triangular protrusions. Yellow card inserted into bag, behind earring, with image of person wearing one and another of the earring itself; paragraph of text describes materials, and technique for ear piercing.

Bilum sealed inside a plastic bag; bag is secured shut with a paper manufacturer's label stapled over the opening. Bilum is square-shaped with a wide strap. Made predominantly of naturally coloured fibres with five decorative bands across length. Bands are (from top to bottom): checkered pink, green "V" shapes, alternating pink and natural squares, alternating green and natural squares, and checkered pink. Blue card is inserted into bag, behind bilum, with image of person wearing a bag and one of the bilum itself; paragraph of text describe materials, and techniques on how it's made.

Miniature Hammer3557/6

Sago hammer sealed inside a plastic bag; bag is secured shut with a paper manufacturer's label stapled over the opening. Hammer consists of a bamboo head with a wood handle, lashed together with rattan fibre. Top of wood handle is split in half and bamboo head is inserted into it. A twisted rattan cord is wrapped around the tip of the head and base of the handle, giving hammer a triangular shape. Miniature Pipe3557/11

Pipe sealed inside a plastic bag; bag is secured shut with a paper manufacturer's label stapled over the opening. Pipe is cylindrical with a tapered mouth piece; mouth piece coloured black. Three incised decorative bands along length of pipe; all incisions are coloured in black. Top and bottom band consists of repeating thin triangles, with curved sides; horizontal lines in between triangles. Centre band has alternating triangle pattern; negative space forms a wavy line. Bottom opening of pipe is coloured black; interior is undecorated. Green card inserted into bag, behind pipe, with image of person using one and one of a pipe itself; paragraph of text describes maker, place made, and material.
