Large rectangular tapa with two serrated edges. On front, various painted designs of lines, zigzags and cross-hatching within dividing lines. On back, 'Savage Isl' is written along the edge.
Large rectangular tapa cloth with hand-painted designs. Black square at centre, bordered by repeated geometric designs. Uneven triangle-cut edges on three sides. The back is plain. (Small piece of tape with collector number adhered to side.)
Large woven mat of grass-like strips with fringe on all four sides. Fringe formed from the unwoven ends, which have been further split. There is stitching around the edge of the weaving. (Small piece of tape with collector number adhered to one corner.)
Long sash woven with a diagonal weave of strips of a grass-like material. The ends of the strips form a short fringe along the top and bottom edges. Strips which has been dyed red are woven in diagonal lines, as well as in a broken line, along both the top and bottom edges.
Grass skirt with a fringe composed of numerous long, thin strips of grass woven into the waistband. Two short cords of twisted fibre on each end. (A small piece of tape with the collector number is adhered to a tie.)
Basket with lid. Small round basket is tightly woven in an even weave, with images of large whales in black and green chased by people in two boats, one hefting a harpoon. Basket is decorated with encircling lines at bottom in red, yellow and black, and at top in bright pink. Lid (part b) has images of water fowl in red and grey circling the pointed centre which has decoration in green and yellow. A line of grey and pink circles the edge of the lid, while a set of lines matching those on the bottom of the basket sit at the lip.
Head ring made of mountain goat wool and cedar bark. Thick strands of wool are wound around a cedar bark core, with four bunches of shredded cedar bark attached around the ring.
Double weave basketry hat. Hat is cone-shaped, made in a small tight weave, undecorated but for two slightly protruding encircling lines placed just below peak and above the rim. Hat’s point is made of four wide strips of bark that are then separated into smaller strands and incorporated into the general weave. A smaller inset cone is found high in the interior, serving as a headband. Its rim is lined with a weave of cotton.
Round basket with pattern and imagery. Basket is a light brown-yellow colour with images in darker brown. Narrow round base flares upward toward midpoint, lower half embellished with human figures standing square to front, arms hanging at sides, feet turned outwards. Figures are interspersed with large geometric designs resembling ‘C’s. Above midpoint basket recedes toward rim, with alternating open and closed square designs. Rim is short and flares slightly outward, and a dark weave edges the lip.
Burden basket with tumpline. Small, square base; basket walls flare toward rim, with a slightly curved profile. Black and red cherry bark imbrication is used to create linear designs with deep ‘V’ shapes on all sides. Hide thong loops, tied through near the rim, hold a tumpline made of red and grey wool and braided cedar bark.
