The item search helps you look through the thousands of items on the RRN and find exactly what you’re after. We’ve split the search into two parts, Results, and Search Filters. You’re in the results section right now. You can still perform “Quick searches” from the menu bar, but if you’re new to the RRN, click the Search tab above and use the exploratory search.

Rectangular woven bag. Cut pieces of grass are woven together, with the intact ends left out as fringe. Blue decorations are attached in a row to the woven area between each line of fringe. The back of the bag is plain. A short plaited cord of coconut fibre(?) is attached to the top of each side. The bag has a creased down the centre, and then two more lesser creases where it was folded again in thirds.
Possibly a nose flute? Large cylindrical flute-shaped instrument of bamboo stem. The flute has split on an angle into two pieces. One piece (part a) is larger, and the other piece (part b) has a triangular notch and a hole through to the opposite side. Various designs have been burned(?) into the wood: concentric circles; zigzags; hourglass; and zoomorphic figures. (Small piece of tape with collector number adhered to one end.)
Carved male figure. Doll (part a) stands on large feet, legs spread, arms slightly akimbo and held away from the body. Legs are painted white, torso black, and face red. A black fuzzy beard surrounds the chin, mouth is open with small inset shell for teeth, eyes are made of the same shell, as is a headband tied around the forehead. A necklace of tubular sections of grass hangs down the chest, and arms have woven plant fibre sleeves. A bag of netting and plant fibre is slung over the left shoulder and adhered to the wood at the handle. A loin cloth of netting with long pieces of grass at back sits around the waist. Part b is a peice of netting similar to that of the loin cloth. Part c is a small feather grouping that attaches by a hole in the doll's head.
Small woven grass bag with a shallow pouch. The unwoven ends extend down, forming a long fringe. Some blue decorations are attached. Two long plaited cords of coconut fibre(?) are knotted to form a handle. A small piece of tape is adhered to the handle with letters 'I.F.' written on it.
Rectangular basket with outer rim of reed(?), bent to shape. Basket's exterior is woven in thin strips of grass, alternating between a dark and light brown, in geometric designs: rows of zigzags, lines, waves. The basket weave is bound to the rim by twisted fibre, which is looped over the reed. The interior is woven with slightly larger strips of fibre, but in a simpler pattern, and with only a few undyed strands woven in. The bottom of the basket is damaged, exposing the leaves(?) within.
Rectangular basket with low sides. The exterior is woven with thin strips of grass with alternating off-white and reddish-brown checks and zigzags. The weaving continues over the handle. The interior is woven with a standard basket weave of large strips of undyed reed or plant fibre. The rim of the basket and the handle appear to be made of strips of grass, and the base is woven from large strips of grass. (Note: basket has undergone repairs since the photo was taken.)
Length of plaited grass-like material with a short fringe. The fringe is created from thin strips of grass woven into a waistband. On each end, the plaited cord thins out once the fringe stops. (Small piece of tape with collector number adhered to tie.)
Semi-circular woven bag of grass-like material with a short plaited handle, created by two cords knotted together. (Small piece of tape with collector number adhered to bag.)
Possibly a nose flute? Small cylindrical piece of bamboo stem. Various geometric designs appear to have been burned into the wood: zigzags; hourglass; and zoomorphic figures. (Small piece of tape with collector number adhered to one end.)
Small rattle made of woven grass. The weaving starts from a square-shaped closed end, a long rectangular body, and then long strands of unwoven grass over a piece of wood(?) are bound by undyed plant fibre forming a handle. Inside the body appear to be small, smooth red stones?
