A thin wooden stick goes through the length of the gourd, forming the handle. Braided palm twine is tied at the top of the handle at the base of the gourd and goes around the rattle, secured in a knot at the top end of the stick. There are two slits made on either side of the gourd, and the rattle is filled with seeds to make noise.
