Female Figure2716/16

Basketry female figure standing on two short legs with toes holds a small child in her left arm. Both have mask faces with cowrie shell eyes that are painted with red, black and gray pigment. The female has numerous grass braids hanging from the top rim of the mask, into which are attached carved cowrie shells.

Male Figure2716/15

Woven male figure with a bird on top of his head. The bird has a looped string on its back and is painted red and black. The man has a flat face with cowrie shell eyes, protruding nose and painted details in red and black. From the back of the head hang knotted pieces of string as hair. The body is round with one arm raised, stout legs and long toes.

Gourd container (parts a-b) with a bulbous base that tapers to a funnel shaped neck (part a). Part b is a semi-spherical shaped lid with a looped leather tie on top. The entire gourd is dark red with a shallow engraved design of various geometric patterns. The central line is painted green along with alternating lines along the bottom of the base. The inside of both pieces is hollow.

Spoon made from one half of a gourd with poker work designs applied to the inner surfaces. Several lines are burnt into the handle edges, the tip of the handle is blackened, and the edges of the bowl are blackened with a series of lines at the front centre of the bowl edge. A symmetrical design consisting of two v shapes and two crescent shapes joined by a darkened area decorates the inner bowl and an x shape ornaments the bowl where it tapers to a handle. The inner handle is decorated with two lines tha run lengthwise.

Very plain instrument with several finger holes. Eight sections of bamboo of varying lengths are inserted into the gourd and tied around with rattan. One set of four bamboo sections are of relatively equal length, being shorter than the other set of four, of which, the two tallest ones are in the middle. The gourd has a hole.

Jaguar hide breastplate consisting of feathers and bordered with grey seeds. The front is decorated with two gourd cups attached forming the breasts that are encircled with grey seeds as well as red and yellow feathers. The below the gourds are two circular patterns of seeds and feathers on either side of a black beetle horn and a semi-circle of seeds and feathers. Running along the bottom is a fringe of grey and brown seeds in between a piece of bone or a reed.

A plain round orange-red container made from a gourd. The stopper is rolled bark with a woven grass design around the sides of yellow and brown vertical zig zags and a carved head finial at the top. The head is carved with circular eyes, a nose from which radial grooved lines go along, and a notched mouth. A string goes through two holes opposite each other around the sides of the gourd.

Mask of Podobujang (a cop) character. Round white and black face with eyes that are outlined with black dots. White bulbous nose and black painted moustache. Black cloth covering and ties are attached to the back of the mask and hang down. Mask backing is yellow and has a white label with printed red characters to one side.
