String Puppet3472/22

Small string puppet of a male character. He wears a long black robe that extends down to his feet. It has a high round collar and 13 black polyhedron buttons sewn along the front opening, with two more of each button on each sleeve cuff. He has painted white socks and black shoes. He has red lips, brown eyes, blue eyelids, red cheeks and grey-brown ear-length hair, moustache and beard. On top of his head is a round black hat. His hands, legs and face are carved. The control stick is attached to the head by a long metal rod, with strings extending from the control stick to limbs. The body is jointed at the elbows, knees, shoulders, and hips – with fabric upper arms.

String Puppet3472/3

String puppet of a sorceress character. She wears a full-length black dress with long sleeves. The front of the dress has a lace panel with black glass beading which extends from the neck to the hem. Underneath, she wears another long black dress with a black velvet hem. Her shoes are black, and she wears red stockings. She wears a small leather flower decoration at her neck and a black cape that hangs from her shoulders. The cape has a woven edge with embroidery along the bottom of the fabric. She has a delicate face with grey-blue eyes, and dark pink colouring which covers her eyelids and cheeks. Her hands, legs and face are carved. Puppet is moved by a metal control rod with a wooden crossbeam, with strings attached to head, shoulders, hands and knees.

String Puppet3472/2

String puppet of an astronomer character. He wears a white blouse with balloon sleeves that have black and white lace cuffs. Over the blouse, he wears a black and white gingham button-up vest with a light blue panel on the back, and lined with a pinstripe fabric. He wears khaki brown pants that end at his calves with brown velvet and beadwork at the hem. His tall boots fold over on his calves revealing a red lining with carved gold tassel decoration at the front. A red belt is tied at his waist. He wears a long black velvet cape that hangs from a plaited metallic cord. He has a large head with a long face. His face is bearded with a long moustache, he has chin-length hair, and his eyes are brown with dark circles around them. On his head he wears a tall conical black felt hat with triangular silver plates lining the rim, and various metal buttons (circles, stars and triangles) attached. The metal control stick is inserted through a cut in the hat. His hands, legs and face are carved with his right hand posed like it should be grasping something. Puppet is moved by a metal control rod with a wooden crossbeam, with strings attached to head, shoulders, hands and knees.

Black apron, or back skirt ribbon, consisting of two rectangular panels stitched together in the top inner corners; long dark blue ties on either side. Panels are decorated with different types of embroidered flowers with stems and leaves; done in pink, yellow, red, white, purple, blue, green, and beige. Panels are trimmed with metal discs with glass buttons at their centres; white ribbon looped around sides of discs.

Moccasins3617/1 a-b

Pair of white deer skin moccasins with beadwork on vamp and sides; openings lined with white fur. Soles, sides, and toes are made up of a large piece of skin, stitched together at toe and heel; vamp is separate. Vamp has a central design of pink and red flowers with yellow centres, and dark and light green leaves. Edges of vamp are bordered with red, maroon, and light green bands. Beadwork on sides of moccasins have a central pink flower with yellow centre, framed with dark purple and yellow buds; buds and flowers are connected with light green and white vines and leaves. Moccasins are lined with plain cloth.

Beaded bag. The bag is composed of two pieces of leather. A larger triangular shaped piece with beadwork on one sides, and a second smaller rectangular piece to create a small pocket. The front is beaded with a dark blue diamond with dark teal and pink within on a white and green background. Stepped striped blocks of black, red, and black on a white and yellow background. A stepped teal design at the tapered point. There is a small flap with a notched centre, and a metal button closure.

Dagger3616/2 a-b

Metal dagger (part a) with long beaded sheath (part b). Large knife with double-edged blade riveted between a two-piece wood handle. The handle is wrapped with a wire of copper alloy metal in three places - around the guard, above the guard, and directly in front of the butt. The wire is inserted into holes in the wood and held together with ornate twists. The sheath is composed of four pieces of leather - two large triangular pieces attached on the sides to form the pocket, and two smaller triangular pieces, which are attached below creating an overall hourglass shape. One side is heavily beaded with blue, pink and black diamond designs on a white background. There is one black 'x' just above the tapered midsection.

Quilled and beaded deerskin tobacco bag. The top is a long pouch of soft deerskin with clear and green beads stitched along the scalloped opening. Below the pouch is a two-sided rectangular panel of beadwork on a red fabric backing. On one side, the beadwork design has two side-by-side pink diamonds with dark blue crosses within, outlined in red, green and dark blue on a white background outlined with a single line of teal flanked by two lines of white beading. On the other side, the beadwork design is of a single pink diamond outlined in teal, red, mustard brown and dark blue on a white background outlined with a single line of teal flanked by two lines of white beading. The diamond has two angled extensions on each side in dark blue, mustard brown, red and teal. Below the beadwork panel is a section of quillwork, with strips of deerskin wrapped in quills dyed orange, red, and white. Below this extends long fringe of deerskin.

Small beaded 'jingle' bag with beadwork. On the front, the beadwork has geometric designs in dark yellow, red, dark blue, and pink, on a light blue background. The back has two separate rectangular sections of beading on a pink background stitched together with some blue beaded fill on the right side. The designs are of concentric diamonds in dark yellow, dark blue, green, white, red and blue attached by lines on a pink background. Round metal beads are tied to a length of skin that is threaded through a slot in the flap and attached to the inside of the bag. The end of each tie has a single red seed bead above the knot. The flap and bottom edge are lined with 'tinkle' bells of conical pounded metal. Attached to the top of the bag are two lengths of skin knotted together with more round metal beads.

Decorative embroidered mattress cover composed of a large cone-shaped red-brown fabric embroidered with large floral designs in circular patterns in red, grey-beige, orange, dark green, purple, and dark purple-blue. The rounded edge is unfinished. A v-shaped red fabric is attached to both straight edges and is embroidered with repeating square panels with geometric designs. The brown edging is decorated with zigzag decorative ribbon. The bottom edge is lined with long fringe in sections of dark brown, maroon, dark green, red, beige, dark purple-blue with white beads at the ends. The cone-shaped piece is backed by a piece of textile with a red and beige paisley pattern, the v-shaped section is backed with red fabric.
