Wood carving of a man and moon woman. The woman, painted white, stands slightly crouched at front and her head is in the shape of a large crescent moon, with sharply pointed chin and forehead, and carved facial features. She wears a grass skirt and twisted grass loops around ankles, neck and through nose. The man holds her from behind. He is painted orange and wears an elaborately painted mask and braided loop embellishments. His hair is made of twisted rope. The eyes of both figures are made of shell. They stand on a rounded brown base.
Wood carving of a figure and birds. Figure has a large oval head, painted white, with small, inset shells for eyes, a long nose with flared nostrils, and small mouth. Black circles and half circles decorate the face. The body is painted black, and has thin twisted rope at neck, waist and wrists. Arms hang at sides with hands flat against thighs. Feet are planted on the head of a large face which is painted similar to the figure’s, also with shell eyes, and upward curving horns. Two small birds perch on the temples. Tall birds span the carving from top to bottom, flanking the figure, beaks touching the top of its head. They are decorated with dark brown stripes. Small black and orange wings are folded on their backs. The back of the carving shows the back of the figure and bottom face, painted solid brown.
Heavy black wood gable mask with only the lower half of the back carved out. Tufts of curly black hair and shells are inset into mounds of black clay(?) at the top of the head, eyebrows, eyes, mouth and sides of the nose. The nose is pierced with a long stick and each ear has twisted brown grass rope earrings knotted into two holes.
Carved dark wood figure, painted with yellow, reddish orange, grayish white and brown pigments, with elongated mask-like face that has spiral shell eyes and wild pig teeth with hanging feathers protruding from its nostrils and spines down its back. On top of the head is an elaborate pointed headdress with mask at front and back, on the shoulders are painted masks, and around the face is a fringe of cassowary feathers imbedded, along with an assortment of small shells, into a base of brown clay. Climbing up the figure's legs from the mounded base with decorative bands of circles is a small alligator.
Wooden mallet. Rectangular head has two curved lines carved into both ends and concave indents on both of the wider side hitting surfaces. At the bottom end of the handle is a small face with raised eyes and carved nostrils and mouth.
Large painted carving of a killer whale lying flat on a base. The decorative elements, such as ivory coloured scales and tattoos covering the body of the whale, red mouth, ivory coloured shells are the sides of the base, and red and yellow waves on the runners of the base, are painted over a dark brown background. Shell eyes are embedded at the top of the broad flattened head with rounded nose.
Carved, hollow, dark wood house finial depicts a large eagle with wings spread high, sitting on the head of a female figure that leans against the conical finial. The figure's face is covered with white tattoo decoration and she wears only painted bracelets and anklets. The eagle is painted white, brown and black. Both have shell eyes. On the sides of the finial cone are long peacock feather-like designs, painted orange and white. Artist signature is carved around base.
Wood sculptural group, carved and painted with yellow, reddish orange and cream pigments, rises from a mound-shaped base with eyes. Tall standing figure with elaborate facial mask is wrapped with snakes; two large ones coiled around its shoulders, another two swallowing its legs and one hangs down from its nose between its legs to end with a huge head at the back. A large spotted bird is perched on two pointed bamboo branches behind the figure's head and two small figures holding pointed spears in each arm stand guard at its feet, one at each side, facing outward. All figures wear grass skirts and have clay topped heads embedded with shell and grass hair. All eyes are shell and strands of twisted rope with attached shells and seeds hang from all noses, ears, necks, wrists and ankles.
A ladle with a garamut handle (part a) that has a relief carving of six bird-like heads, all of which have large curved noses. The bowl (part b) is a half coconut shell and is tied to the handle with cane fibres through four holes forming two criss-cross patterns on the back. The end of the handle has one ring, and a knob. The handle is loose.
