Purse3660/50

Small red, rectangular cotton twill purse, decorated with clear beads. The back has a very heavily beaded perched bird design, with the leaf or blossom pattern continuing onto the front flap. The purse handle is made from a single strand of beads attached at both sides; the edges are all covered with spirals of beads and three triple loop strands of beads hang from the bottom. The purse flap closes with a metal hook into a thread loop. The inside is lined with blue fabric.

Pin Cushion3660/49

Boot-shaped fabric pin cushion with a small pouch at top. Beige velvet front, heavily covered in floral beadwork patterns, with different types of beads and some brown sequins; the flowers and leaves appear to have been sewn onto paper first. The edges of the boot are covered in spirals of clear beads. The upper flower has three loops of beads hanging out of the centre. The inside front of the pouch and the entire back are covered in beige cotton (now stained blue and patched at corner); the boot is tightly stuffed with what may be straw, or other plant material. Small loop of multicoloured beads (mainly shades of blue) attached to top.

Pin Cushion3660/44

Diamond-shaped pin cushion with beadwork. The front has "DEAR MOTHER 1937" beaded, with each line beaded in a different colour - dark blue, white and then yellow. There is one short multicoloured beaded loop at the top, and nine looped along the bottom edges. The cushion edges are finished with whip-stitches using natural thread with pairs of black beads. Back is plain heavy fabric.

Pin cushion3660/43

Small beaded clamshell-shaped pin cushion that opens like a clamshell. The top of the cushion has heavy beadwork in a geometric motif of three circular shapes connected by two lines in clear beads with three black tubular beads at the centre of each circle, close to the scalloped edge. The words 'FROM NIAGARA FALLS' are beaded in amber-coloured beads above. The bottom is heavily embroidered with clear, amber, pink and yellow beads in a floral motif. The top flap opens up to a natural woven fabric cushion. The beadwork is on a dark blue wool(?) background, which is edged with light brown fabric and clear beads.

Beaded pouch made of black felted wool(?) edged in ruched black silk(?), and heavily beaded with flowers and foliage. The bag's shape is rounded with two scalloped flaps that fall to either side of the opening. The inside of the pouch is lined in black silk, and the underside of the flaps in felted wool. A black silk strap is partially attached to the pouch at the opening.

Chatelaine Bag3660/39

Small tulip-shaped cloth bag with densely beaded floral motifs on both sides in blue, green, red, yellow, white and clear. The beads are stitched on to a brown pile velvet fabric. There is a lighter brown fabric sewn around the edges, and a short handle made of brown velvet with a blue-purple silk backing. The top of the bag is open, and the interior lining is a dusty pink, shiny fabric.

Wall Pouch3660/33

Boot-shaped wall-pocket, or pouch. The boot part is made of a double layer of birch bark, whip-stitched around the edges with thick black thread. There is an arched band attached at the top creating the pocket. Faded floral quillwork designs cover most of the front face and the band. Some quills dyed yellow and green, but most are off-white. (A few parts of the quillwork are missing.) The back is plain birch bark.

Birch bark booklet with quillwork. The cover has red maple leaf, angled row of white cross-hatching, and then in red "Veterans Guard of Canada" in quillwork. Inside birch bark pages are blank. The cover is edged with bent grass(?) and is whip-stitched with black cotton thread. There is a small adhesive sticker on the inside of the front cover, "F 3.00". The back is plain except four angled white quills, in two pairs.

Beaded collar necklace. Flat, semi-circular beaded necklace with solid lines of colour - 1 row of translucent green, 3 rows of white, then alternating rows of black and white, and then loops of orange with a line of alternating white and dark blue beads along the bottom of the orange loops. Beaded double loop and button closure.

Beaded South Africa flag ornament. Beadwork consists of a horizontal Y-shape (pall) in green, with yellow and white borders, separating sections of red (top) and blue (bottom) and a black hoist triangle. The beadwork hangs vertically from a large safety pin, which is attached to a small rectangular paper booklet labelled 'SOUTH AFRICA'. The inside has lyrics to "THE CALL OF SOUTH AFRICA" AND "NKOSI SIKELEL' iAFRIKA", and the back has a prayer printed on it titled "GOD BLESS AFRICA". It notes "HANDMADE IN SOUTH AFRICA".
