Jacket3587/35

Long-sleeved jacket or blouse. Jacket is short in the torso and is made of dark brown fabric. Garment is open at front and edged with beige. The cuffs, shoulders and front opening have red silk. On the right shoulder, there are two white buttons on both front and back with short multicoloured fibres attached. The front panels and back of the garment are heavily embroidered in dark purple-red, dark pink, green, light grey-brown and red in various geometric designs. There is a small square pocket on the front right interior, and the interior is unlined.

Skirt3587/33

Wrap-around skirt (pukhang). Composed of three lengths of dark grey-brown woven fabric, stitched together on the long edge. Textile has supplementary pattern in stiff red-brown fibre, with three breaks, with bands of embroidered geometric shapes - red-brown meander(?) design on dark black-blue ground, red-brown zigzags with white flecks in between points on a black-blue ground, and a smaller meander(?) in grey, orange, brown-yellow, dark black-blue over the original weave. Collector's tag sewn to back.

Skirt3587/29

Tube skirt. The skirt is composed of two lengths of dark purple textile stitched together to form a tube. One opening has an 11.5 cm black band attached. The other end is finished. The dark purple has supplementary patterning with repeating diamonds in the negative space of dashed yellow stitching. There is a centre column of repeating diamonds - with the pattern mirrored on the opposite side of a plain band featuring the text 'GANGAW SPECIAL'. Collector's tag sewn to interior.

Shoulder Cloth3587/27

Shoulder cloth (naga pong). Plain weave with supplementary dark brown-green weft pattern on a yellow-brown background. The textile is divided into 4 sections down the length by thin black and red bands - thicker bands on each edge and down the centre. Collector's tag sewn to reverse, which is yellow-brown.

Sleeveless blouse. Composed of two rectangular woven panels that are folded in half lengthwise, then partially stitched together down the long edges, creating a v-neck opening for the head and arm holes. Both pieces have single-sided embroidered designs on a black background. The upper portion has vertical lines and an embroidered band running down the centre of each side. The shoulders are both embroidered. The back is tied together and embellished with rows of buttons. The lower portion of the blouse is embellished with white buttons running down each seam and across both the hem and mid-section. Collector's tag sewn to interior.

Wrap-around skirt. Overall design of repeating yellow, green and then yellow and then two pink dotted lines, then three solid pink lines on a black background. A single column of silver sequins are sewn down the centre of the textile. Both the top and bottom edge have beaded fringe. Some have four or five white beads, and some have two white beads with a clear cylindrical bead in between. Single-sided embroidery. Collector's tag is sewn to the back.

Composed of two long, rectangular woven panels that are folded in half lengthwise, then partially stitched together down the long edges, creating a v-neck opening for the head and arm holes. Both pieces have single-sided embroidered designs on a black background. The lower portion of the blouse is embroidered with a large panel of diamonds and angled lines, which is flanked by repeating bands of geometric designs. Both sides have 6 small rectangular embroidered panels, three on each side of the neck, with two lines of white beading with four white buttons in the centre. The top line is further embroidered around the beading. The hem is lined with a double row of white beads lines, and is embellished with clusters of four buttons at each side seam, one button at the front centre, and two at the back centre.

Wrap-around skirt. Red background with six bands of designs. Each band has a wide centre band in black with two smaller green bands on each side, separated by a thin blue line. The bands are embroidered with geometric designs in orange, red, light blue, and white. The bottom has a wide black band with a row of embroidered designs across the top in dark green, white and red, flanked by yellow and red zigzags. The top is finished with an embroidered band on a brown-red background. Thin band of designs on either short edge with very short fringe. Single-sided embroidery.

Sleeveless blouse. Red square-shaped blouse with shoulders composed of two long, rectangular pieces of textiles folded lengthwise, then stitched on their short edges to the body, creating two armholes and a neck hole. Lower half of blouse is embellished with red beads in a cross-hatch pattern, with double beaded lines dividing the space into 8 rows. The sides are both lightly embroidered with designs in dark orange and green, with some beadwork, and three columns of four decorations made of 4 cowrie shells. Collector's tag sewn to interior.

Cotton Fibre3651/3 a-g

Seven different samples of raw, undyed cotton fibre. There are three samples of cleaned, processed cotton roving: off-white (part a), pale orange-brown (part b), and pale green-brown (part c). Also four bundles of raw natural cotton, with bits of seeds etc. still visible: off-white (part d), pale orange-brown (part e), pale green-brown (part f), and a slightly darker version of the pale green-brown (part g).
