The item search helps you look through the thousands of items on the RRN and find exactly what you’re after. We’ve split the search into two parts, Results, and Search Filters. You’re in the results section right now. You can still perform “Quick searches” from the menu bar, but if you’re new to the RRN, click the Search tab above and use the exploratory search.

Basket sampler showing four sections of different types of basket weaving. Openwork basket is tall and rectangular, with a rounded base and walls that flare slightly toward rim. Large loops are attached at the upper layer, through which are passed two tumpline ropes that serve as a handle. A skinned ermine is sewn to the handle (with its nose and whiskers still present). Cedar oil was applied to the basketry after completion.
Thick square wooden carving with soft rounded corners and flat edge. Carving depicts the moon, and a frog with black almond-shaped eyes. Brass rod at centre of base for installation. Artist inscription and date on base.
Small rectangular bentwood box with lid (part b). Box has soft rounded corners and thin blue circles on the short sides. Wider sides have carvings in a square, at centre, painted in red. Three-dimensional carving on lid depicts a raven with protruding beak at one end, an animal head and front legs at the opposite end, and a face between them. Their eyes are all painted black; the animal's tongue is red. Artist's inscription on base and underside of lid.
Small unpainted, wooden, Dzunuk'wa style mask, without eye or mouth holes. The fine wood grain is prominent, creating circles at eyes and forehead, and emphasizing the overhanging top lip of the protruding mouth. Back is flat, with "Ellen Neel" carved above centre.
Small unpainted, wooden, Dzunuk'wa style mask, without eye or mouth holes. Wood grain is prominent, creating circles at eyes and forehead, and emphasizing the round protruding mouth. Back is flat, with "Ellen Neel" carved below centre.
Round basket with lid. Small basket has a recessed base from which rises the short, straight wall. Weave is fine, with two lines of imbricated design around midpoint, rectangles each with an interior panel, in colours of purple, blue and light green- likely faded. The lid fits over the mouth of the basket and is concave at centre with a convex finial. Designs similar to those on the basket encircle the finial.
Large bentwood bowl, or dish. Wrapped around the four sides are painted images of killer whales, their heads meeting at the front, their tails at the back. Human-like faces appear in the whales’ blowholes and above the heads; a face with an upturned mouth and two ears looks out above the tail flukes, its clawed hands/paws on either side, and slender legs extending around to either side of the bowl. Dark red border around upper edge. Yellow cedar sides, red cedar base.
Set of three detached bentwood chest panels. Front and back panels have stylized imagery painted in black and red across entire surface. Cross-hatching can be seen in several areas. Several large stitches of cedar root can be seen along the right side of one panel. The shorter side panel shows four faint painted lines in a rust-red colour, running from bottom left corner upwards toward opposite side's midpoint. Faint suggestions of other lines above. On right edge are cracks where wood has been bent, and an undercut on the backside of the old bend. All three pieces have hanging hardware on the back.
The dye is red and purple.
