Bear Mother3260/122

Yellow cedar sculpture depicting a female with two cubs on top and a bear at the bottom. There are fourteen operculum shell teeth set into the bear. There is a face carved on the underside of the sculpture. The back is hollow. Inscription on back, artist name, date, title.

Basket3259/40 a-b

Basket with lid. Small round basket is tightly woven in an even weave, with images of large whales in black and green chased by people in two boats, one hefting a harpoon. Basket is decorated with encircling lines at bottom in red, yellow and black, and at top in bright pink. Lid (part b) has images of water fowl in red and grey circling the pointed centre which has decoration in green and yellow. A line of grey and pink circles the edge of the lid, while a set of lines matching those on the bottom of the basket sit at the lip.

Head ring made of mountain goat wool and cedar bark. Thick strands of wool are wound around a cedar bark core, with four bunches of shredded cedar bark attached around the ring.

Hat3259/43

Double weave basketry hat. Hat is cone-shaped, made in a small tight weave, undecorated but for two slightly protruding encircling lines placed just below peak and above the rim. Hat’s point is made of four wide strips of bark that are then separated into smaller strands and incorporated into the general weave. A smaller inset cone is found high in the interior, serving as a headband. Its rim is lined with a weave of cotton.

Wooden guardian figure. Figure sits in a crouched position, hands resting on knees that are drawn up to chest. Head and face are elongated, nose and mouth wide, brows heavy. A round hat sits high on the head, with a small brim under three tall rings at crown.
