The item search helps you look through the thousands of items on the RRN and find exactly what you’re after. We’ve split the search into two parts, Results, and Search Filters. You’re in the results section right now. You can still perform “Quick searches” from the menu bar, but if you’re new to the RRN, click the Search tab above and use the exploratory search.

Rectangular mat with woven pattern. The mat has bands of dark cedar through both the warp and weft. The bands intersect at regular intervals, creating a large grid-like pattern. The edges are finished by including a thick strip of cedar as the outermost strand and overcasting.
Rectangular woven mat. Geometric design of intersecting bands formed by groups of dark strands at regular intervals through both warp and weft. Edge finished by using wide strip of cedar as outermost strand and overcasting on a core of cedar.
Part (a) Rectangular coiled (with bifurcated stitches) cedar root basket with slats (base) and lid. Imbricated pattern of rows of rectangles in red and dark cherry bark, and bottom rom dark or red cherry bark with cat-tail grass (?) in center. Part (b) Parallel coiled lid and flange with coiled handle. Imbricated pattern same as basket, except no cat-tail grass (?).
Coiled bowl (bifurcated stitches) with pedastal base. Cedar root splint foundation with watch-spring construction. Imbricated design on bowl and repeated on pedastal of solid dark cherry bark band (earthline ?) with checkerboard triangles (mountains ?) in black cherry bark and grass. Top two coil rows of basket are looped.
Small cedar root carrying basket with simple interlocking coiled work (bifurcated stitches), parallel slat base, and an overcast splint rim. Two coiled handles. Decorated with partial beading where every other slat is beaded (2:2 ratio). Beading on the slats alternates in red and black cherry bark.
Cylindrical flared coiled basket (bifurcated stitches) with second cylindrical coiled work at center. Imbricated design on outer basket is one horizontal zig-zag, in dark cherry bark, cat-tail grass (?), and red cherry bark, and reverse of material. Bottom row of beading above foot is in cat-tail grass (?). Inner coiled basket has beaded dark cherry bark rim and four beaded rows in cat-tail grass (?), red cherry bark, cat-tail grass (?), and dark cherry bark. Watch-spring base construction. Foot has four rows of beaded cat-tail grass (?), indicating this basket may have been made by a basket maker from Spuzzum, B.C.
Coiled, footed basket with bifurcated stitches. Imbricated vertical design of alternating rows of red and dark cherry bark with cat-tail grass(?). Watch-spring base construction. Repeated parallel holes on surface of rim indicates basket may have had a loop border. Light coloured grass used for beaded imbrication around the foot of the basket.
Part (a) Round urn shaped coiled basket (bifurcated stitches) with lid, part (b). Watch-spring base and lid construction, narrow splint flange on lid. Imbricated design in dark and red cherry bark crosses alternating in colour every two vertical rows. Lid continues cross design in two rows of single alternating colours of red and dark cherry bark.
Small coil basket (with bifurcated stitches) with lid and handle. Watch-spring base and lid construction, indented flange on lid. Coiled handle attached with coiled elements on body. Foot of two coiled rows. Imbricated pattern on shoulder of basket in zig-zag shape in red cherry bark and cat-tail grass (?). Sides have bands of alternating dark cherry bark with cat-tail grass (?) and red cherry bark with cat-tail grass (?). Foot has red cherry bark beading. Lid has flower shaped imbrication of one row each red and dark cherry bark and cat-tail grass (?).
Cedar root basket with splint foundation and coiled elements of cedar rootlet. Imbrication in cat-tail, red and black-dyed cherry bark. Simple interlocking coiled work (with bifurcated stitches) parallel coiled base with watch spring coiling at periphery; overcast rim, partial imbrication. Individual unattached diamond figures (continuous pattern around sides). These are tri-colour in black/white/red and red/white/black alternating and are arranged in five staggered rows such that chevron figures are produced in total rather than simple oblique lines of similarly coloured diamonds. Colour: tan.
