A man stands on the bank fishing. Behind him and to either side of the river are bushes, and tall buildings with white or yellow walls and red roofs. A dark sky with clouds and a full moon can be seen at top centre. Stamped in wood: "W.E. & F. Newton / Opticians & Globe Makers to the Queen...London"

On the frame’s back right, a large triangular groove is carved into the wood to allow for the up and down movement of a brass handle attached to the rear plate by a brass ring. The front plate shows a coloured, printed image of a man and woman harvesting wheat. The man holds a scythe. The back plate has a printed image of the man’s arm, his hand holding a whetstone. When the plate is moved by the lever, it appears that the man is sharpening the scythe. Stamped into wood is "W.C. Hughes / Optician / 151 Hoxton St / London".

Small brass figurine. Figure has a large head--a sharp wedge in cross section, wide in depth, with a narrow face--and carved slits for eyes, ears and mouth. Large breasts protrude to the front, as does the narrow, pointed belly. The figure stands with knees and arms bent, hands gripping a tall pole that sits in a small bowl attached to a rectangular platform at bottom.

Pair of metal binoculars. Eye piece assembly is made of brass, with a black patina. Below it at centre sits a rigged focussing knob. The barrels are covered in a hard black leather and flare slightly toward the objective lenses, which are lined with moveable tin tubes that have a pattern of incised, encircling lines.
