Digging stick with a broad, slightly curved blade on one side. There is a raised section dividing the handle from the blade. The handle is wrapped with bark, and there is another raised protuberance at the end.
Model sturgeon-nosed bark canoe (part a) with two wooden paddles (parts b-c). Canoe hull has a long, pointed bow and stern, creating sharp angles towards opening. Body is shaped with rib and slat frames; lashed together with bark and plant fibre. Metal wire along underside of stern; small hide tie towards middle of canoe along left side. One thwart across middle of canoe opening. Paddles have rectangular blades with flattened handles; designs painted in light red and dark blue across front and back of blades. Smaller paddle (part b) has connected diamonds with crosses through them on front; horizontal stripes across back. Larger paddle (part c) has zigzags painted and incised across front of blade; chevrons done across back.
Long knife (part a), whittling knife (part b) and scabbard (part c). Long knife has a deer horn hilt carved into the profile of a bird’s head. Hourglass-like designs and curvilinear motifs incised throughout. Protruding from the top of the bird’s head and the beak are sections of short black and red hair. Hole drilled through pronounced nostrils, for hanging or attachment purposes. Hilt grip covered with woven band of rattan. The blade is convex on one side, slightly concave on the other, and widens from the hilt. Tip is angled. The whittling knife has a small curved blade attached to a long, slightly curved handle. Blade end of hilt decorated with a wide band of braided metal. Blades of both knifes are secured to hilts with resin. The scabbard is composed of a wood sheath for the long knife and a bark sheath for the whittling knife. Wood sheath made of two pieces of wood bound together with rattan. Ties alternate between single dyed strands and thick decorative bands. Bands, woven with naturally coloured and dyed strands, consist of “X”-shaped designs, concentric circles and knots. Wood is painted dark red and has incised motifs, matching designs on long knife hilt, throughout. Bark sheath is undecorated and secured to wood sheath with plain rattan ties. Braided rattan carrying cord, with looped end, threaded through bark sheath.
Tamer's headdress. Cedar bark headdress in the form of a rounded beak: two semi-circular flaps at front representing a beak with two long oval shapes that sit on top of beak, a hooked nose that projects out over the beak. Bunched cedar strips are attached at the top of the headdress frame with thick white string, and white string is wrapped around the base of the frame at the back. (Photos show mask without the nose piece; nose repaired in 2021.)
Large rectangular lidded basket with handles and a tight weave. The basket body is deep with a wide mouth, narrowing to a smaller base, with imbricated diamond, triangle and arrow shaped patterns in colours of tan, dark brown and red-brown decorating all sides. The lid (part b) is flat and has a low profile. It is decorated with imbrication similar to that on the body. The basket has two half circle handles attached at the shorter sides, just under the rim (one reattached in 2019).
Four cylindrical pieces of wood that bulge slightly towards the centre. Parts a and b have a ring of bark around the centre; parts c-d are plain wood.
