The item search helps you look through the thousands of items on the RRN and find exactly what you’re after. We’ve split the search into two parts, Results, and Search Filters. You’re in the results section right now. You can still perform “Quick searches” from the menu bar, but if you’re new to the RRN, click the Search tab above and use the exploratory search.

A hexagonally-shaped basket of brown and natural palm leaf plaited into geometric designs. The rim of both the base and the fitted lid are round in shape. On the flat interior of both pieces, six bamboo splint reinforcements are interwoven into the plaiting. The pattern (two parallel splints in each configuration) defines the six points of the basket's shape. The splints are not visible on the outside of the basket.
Natural colour, cylindrical basket which narrows from one end to an indented neck at the other. A piece of coconut shell is fastened across the top of narrowest end with plant fibre and a piece of indigo coloured thread of twined plant fibre is attached near the open end. Inside there are two round sets of prongs which point back towards the coconut shell. The smallest circle occurs midway, while the other occurs one third of the way from the open end.
Roughly cylindrical woven trap. Trap slopes in gently at the shoulder each vertical strip terminating in a knob of thick dimensions at the upper lip. A coconut shell half is fitted into the upper end and is secured with two narrow strips of bamboo (?). Three ends of these strips are incorporated (at equidistance) into the main body. The loose fourth end is single-knotted to the other strip above the shell. Inside the trap is a conically shaped structure incorporated into the trap's main body and terminating two-thirds of the way up the trap's length in vertical, pointed bamboo (?) slats. A similarly shaped, but shorter and less funnel-like structure is located within the trap's lower edge. A single strip of bamboo (?) is incorporated into the trap and wound around itself, thus forming a handle.
The overall shape of the basket is oval, rising from a rounded base. The bottom two-thirds are separated from the upper third by a 2.5 centimeter band of string-like bamboo strips woven in a diagonal pattern. The bottom two-thirds is woven with strips of bamboo, the upper third is woven with one centimeter bands of string-like bamboo rising to a braided two loop closure. Straps of approximately one centimeter in width and sixty centimeters in length permit this basket to be worn like a knapsack on the back. The colour is of tones of brown in a mottled effect from usage. The basket has a typed label on it 'Knapsack from Kiangan, Mountain Province'.
Bottle-like woven trap with inverted lid attached. Walls bulge out from oval base and compress into flat oval shoulder. Twined, circular neck flares slightly outwards. Inverted cone lid attached with one strand. Alternating sections of medium flat woven weft and narrow rounded twined weft. Natural light brown colour. Loose weaving to allow water in.
Tall, square-bottomed, jar-like basket. Rigid structure, square at the bottom with tall rectangular shaped body. Shoulders slope inwards to cylindrical neck which extends upwards approximately. 8 cm. Body is composed of vertical slats placed in parallel order around the structure. Slats measure 1.5 cm. in width and are placed approximately. 0.3 cm. apart. Slats are twined together at base, center and shoulders of body. They taper at shoulders and continue to lip of neck. Lip is finished with a herring bone stitch called 'iyugu'. Base is supported with rattan foot ring.
Wide, round, square-based basket with bamboo rim and foot. The rim is attached with lashed and knotted fibre; foot is pierced at intervals with fibre lashings. Exterior has linear geometric patterns in black-brown and natural; bottom has a pattern of alternating black-brown and natural concentric squares.

Semi-spherical hat plaited over a supporting frame of sewn palm leaves. Outer rim is of coloured split bamboo. The exterior has a geometric design that consists of four panels that each have a central three side-by-side dark and light brown diamond shape pattern to create a light brown w-line with a checker-like pattern above and a light brown zig zag line with a varied pattern below. The inner surface of palm is plaited in an open pattern. Pith knob on top of the hat is in the form of an irregular cylinder. A chain of braided bamboo is attached to opposite sides of the rim.
Cylindrical bamboo tube in two parts: top (part b) slides into the bottom (part a), not an accurate fit. The cylinder tapers towards both ends, each of which has a concave depression. A plaited loop is inserted in the centre of the top (part b) and is knotted on the interior. The design and the foot and the rim have been painted black. Geometric designs are incised on the sides. The bottom (part a) has three horizontal bands with the following patterns from top to bottom: four-lined inward pointing triangles to create a zig zag in between; inward pointing triangles that have horizontal lines within and that create a zig zags in between; and diamond shapes. The top (part b) has vertical bands of x-shapes, zig zags, and diagonal lines.
